Highlighting the career of Floyd Alderson

For one night only, exclusive to the Inner Circle at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library, see local resident Floyd Alderson star as Wally Wales in “Galloping On” and “The Lone Rider.” A special screening of the two films will highlight the movie career of local cowboy and film star, Floyd Alderson.

“Galloping On” is an early silent film in Alderson’s career that tells the story of a wrongfully imprisoned man who returns home to find his mother’s ranch has been seized by a corrupt banker. Justice and romance prevail in this classic film from 1925.

“The Lone Rider” is a short film from 1934 and was one of the early talking roles for Alderson. The film tells of the story of a gold mine run by a father and his daughter. A dashing hero arrives on his steed, Silver King the Wonder Horse, to aid the gold miners in their fight against bandits.

Floyd Alderson was a local cowboy known for being the oldest of the “Bones” Brothers who operated a dude ranch near Birney, Montana, until the 1960s. After working various jobs as a cattle wrangler and helping develop the Alderson ranch, he ended up working with horses for a movie studio in California.

He eventually was given bit parts as extras, most of which remain unknown. In 1925, he signed a contract with Action Pictures and changed his name to Wally Wales. His career spanned nearly 40 years with more than 200 film credits to his name.

During his career, he starred as the hero, the villain, the sheriff and, quite often, the cowboy.

Please join us Feb. 9 in the Inner Circle at 6 p.m. as we celebrate the career of Floyd Alderson. The program will last approximately two hours and is appropriate for all ages.
