SHERIDAN — Denver East high school senior Jevon Griffin will take his basketball abilities to Sheridan College this fall.
Griffin signed a national letter of intent to play for the Generals. The college made the signing official April 8.
Griffin is the first player Sheridan Generals head coach Steve Smiley has signed to his program for 2014.
“The Generals have targeted Griffin as a top priority for a long time,” Smiley said. “Getting his commitment is a major piece for building our team for next year.”
Griffin finished his high school career with a state championship in March and was named second-team All-Colorado — earning this award both his senior and junior season. Griffin was named First-Team Denver Public League and All-Tourney State Team.
Griffin has averaged 13 points, six rebounds and four assists per game.
“Griffin is a big guard that can play multiple spots and guard multiple spots,” Smiley said. “We plan on using Jevon as a big lead guard because of his vision and feel for the game.”
The Generals came off of another great season earlier this year, finishing with a 27-6 record, as Region 9 North runner-up and ranked No. 21 nationally.
“We anticipate Griffin having an immediate impact on our program this coming season,” Smiley said.
