SHERIDAN — Sadanand Dhekney, assistant professor of horticulture at the University of Wyoming, will present a lecture on the “Genetic Engineering of Grapes for Enhanced Drought and Salt Tolerance.”
The talk will be Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. at the Science Museum in the Mohns Center at Sheridan College.
    Grapes are the most valuable fruit crop in the world and the United States they account for 30 percent of the value of all fruits. Grapevine crop improvement for abiotic stress tolerance and disease resistance has been difficult by conventional breeding techniques.
Dhekney will highlight progress in the development of grape regeneration and genetic engineering systems.
    This talk is free and open to the public.
