CASPER — Injuries at the post position finally caught up with the Sheridan College Generals Saturday afternoon.
Unfortunately for a team that finished the regular season as conference champs, it came in the first game of a one-and-done postseason tournament.
Sheridan College lost to Northeastern Junior College 97-81 Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Region IX tournament at Casper College.
Sophomore Ron Mvouika scored 29 points and had eight rebounds in his last game as a General, and freshman Iakeem Alston scored 20.
The Generals closed in on a double-digit lead NJC had held for most of the half as time wound down in the first, but still trailed by eight, 43-34, at the break.
Northeastern (11-20) started the second half on a 9-3 run, and the Generals were unable to gain ground on the lower seeded team. The Plainsmen were 10 of 27 from behind the arc, ahead of the Generals nine of 32 shooting from the 3-point line.
Teams were nearly identical from the free throw line (SC was 16-23, NJC was 17-23). They both finished with 33 rebounds, and NJC had 29 assists to the Generals’ 14.
Sophomore Victor Bermudez scored 12 points and freshman Frederic Dure scored 10.
Six players scored in double-figures for the Plainsmen.
The Generals finished the year 24-8, and as Region IX North champions, a title they shared with Casper College.
