SHERIDAN — The Generals men’s basketball team has added yet another impressive frame to their 2013 squad. Kaileb Rodriguez is a 6-foot-9-inch 225-pound forward who will transfer to SC after redshirting at the University of California last season.
Rodriguez is a Denver-native where he averaged 11 points, seven boards, four blocks and three assists per game during his senior year in high school.
“Kaileb is another crucial piece of our recruiting puzzle, and we are really happy that he chose to become a member of the Generals family,” men’s coach Steve Smiley said. “He comes from one of the top programs in the state of Colorado under coach Ortiz, and he’s been well coached and knows how to win.”
Rodriguez helped Thunder Ride High School post a 20-6 record in his final year there, finishing as the No. 5 ranked team in the state of Colorado. He was a two-time All 5A player and played in the Colorado All-Star game prior to heading for California.
“Kaileb has truly transformed his body, and will have a chance to be a special player in our program before moving back to the D1 level in the near future,” Smiley added. “He’s another player that has the athleticism, size and strength to play multiple positions in our program if needed, and will give us great flexibility next year.”
Next year is shaping up to be a big one for the Generals, who have already signed Canadian star big men Abednego Lufile (6-foot-7-inch, 230 pounds) and Rudolphe Joly (6-foot-10-inch 260 pounds) this spring.
And they’re not done yet; SC has signed Sam Williams, a 6-foot-7-inch, 215-pound forward from Hug High School in Reno, Nevada. Look for more on Williams in Thursday’s Sheridan Press.
