Kadera named Laramie  High School wrestling coach

SHERIDAN — Former University of Wyoming wrestler and Sheridan graduate Mikah Kadera has accepted the head wrestling coach job at Laramie High School.

Kadera wrestled for UW from 2007-2010, then transferred to Chadron State where he wrestled for two more years.  An All-State wrestler for SHS, he graduated in 2007. He takes over a LHS team that was 1-12 in duals last year.

The Laramie Boomerang first reported the news this week.

Sheridan Majors advance to District 2 championship

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Little League Majors beat Torrington Thursday and will now play for the District 2 championship game at noon today against Laramie. Sheridan beat Torrington 10-8.

If Sheridan wins, they’ll advance to next weekend’s state tournament in Laramie. The team is made up of 11-12 year olds.  The Sheridan Little League Minors (ages 9-10) had a bye yesterday and played in a consolation championship game at 9 a.m., against host Torrington.

2013 Black Powder Shootout kicks off at Powder Horn

SHERIDAN — The Powder Horn Golf Course’s biggest summer event is underway.

The 2013 Black Powder Shootout began yesterday with a practice round, and will continue today and tomorrow with two-person team, best ball play. With a 72-team limit, the event features five matches with various other events following play each day at Sheridan’s nationally-renowned links. The Black Powder Shootout raises money each year for a local charity, and this year’s beneficiary is Reproductive Health of the Big Horns.

Nine-hole matches were set for 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. today. Saturday’s awards presentation is set for 8:30 p.m.
