SHERIDAN — On Saturday, Little Big Horn Trout Unlimited will host its first-ever Spring Runoff Half Marathon and 5k race alongside the Mayfly Festival in Kendrick Park.

“Everyone is invited to this family-friendly event,” LBHTU President Nick Haderlie said in a press release. “There will be activities for kids, runners, live music from the Craft Brothers and more.”

The Spring Runoff half marathon and 5k will be fully supported and timed running events, beginning and ending at the Kendrick Park bandshell. Same-day registration starts at 8 a.m. The half marathon will begin at 9 a.m. and the 5k run/walk will begin at 10 a.m. The event will also include a family-friendly walk/run around the loops in Kendrick Park beginning immediately after the 5k at 10 a.m.

In addition to the Spring Runoff races, the local Trout Unlimited chapter has planned a free Mayfly Festival in the park. The Mayfly Festival will include music, food, local brews, bouncy house and games for kids.

Little Big Horn Trout Unlimited will teach fly tying and casting, and several other local organizations will have booths, tables or tents with various activities. Smokey Bear and his friends from the U.S. Forest Service are expected to make an appearance, and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be on hand with educational activities for kids.

Proceeds from this event will be used to support the city of Sheridan’s proposed North Park Pond reservoir project. For questions or more information, contact Little Big Horn Trout Unlimited at 307-215-9663, trout615@gmail.com or on Facebook.
