SHERIDAN — Gabe Brown will speak on soil health, livestock grazing and stacking enterprises Nov. 10 in Sheridan.

Brown, who ranches and farms east of Bismarck, North Dakota, is one of the most sought after speakers for no-till, cover crops, livestock grazing and soil health presentations in the United States.

The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration and coffee, followed by the “Regenerating Landscapes Soil Health” workshop at 12:30 p.m. The Browns practice holistic management on their 5,000-acre ranch, where improving soil health is a priority and no-till farming has been practiced since 1993. The Browns employ a diverse cropping strategy, which includes cover and companion crops. These management practices have allowed the Browns to eliminate the use of synthetic fertilizers, fungicides and pesticides, as well as increase the production and profitability of the ranch.

The workshop is sponsored by the Sheridan County Conservation District, Plank Stewardship Initiative, Sheridan College agriculture department, Barnyards & Backyards and the Powder River Basin Resource Council.

The afternoon event will be held at the Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College, and the cost to attend is $10. Attendees are asked to register for the workshop in advance through the Sheridan County Conservation District website at www.sccdwy.org. Hard copies of the registration form are also available. A block of rooms is available at the Sheridan Holiday Inn for $79 per night under “Soil Health Workshop.”
