SHERIDAN — Dementia Friendly Wyoming has invited businesses and other organizations to breakfast education sessions at The Hub on Smith Street on Dec. 5, 12, and 19 from 8:30-9:30 am.
One in two households will be affected by dementia in the next 10 years. Any organization that is dementia friendly becomes a stakeholder in the well-being of the entire community. To become dementia friendly and receive a window cling stating “We are Dementia Friendly” each organization must:
• ensure that 50 percent of staff completes the 60-minute training.
• evaluate the business space to find simple ways to create a safe and welcoming environment.
• appoint a team leader.
• agree to additional training for new staff and those unable to attend.
Those who complete the training will understand dementia and its many causes, recognize when someone has cognitive challenges, learn at least one approach to effectively communicate and be able to locate resources for individuals living with dementia and their care partners.
The goal of the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia Initiative project is to expand and significantly strengthen Sheridan County’s dementia capability to support individuals with dementia and their care partners. Call 307-461-7134 to make your reservation for the upcoming training. The Hub on Smith is located at 211 Smith St.
