CNFR: Thurston makes big jump

SHERIDAN — Sheridan College cowboy Zeke Thurston moved up to sixth place in saddle bronc competition at the College National Finals Rodeo Wednesday in Casper.

Sitting in 17th place in the average after two rides, Thurston chose a re-ride option last night and scored 61.5 to put himself near the top of the leaderboard in what’s proved to be the toughest event at this year’s CNFR.

Thurston’s was the top score Wednesday as just three riders posted qualified rides at last night’s performance. Only six riders remain that have scored two rides through the first two go-rounds, according to the Associated Press.

In bareback, Sheridan native and Gillette College cowboy Devan Reilly also took a re-ride, securing his third score, a 69, which puts him in sixth place in the average (211.5 on three).
