SHERIDAN — Six teams traveled to Sheridan last weekend to compete in a statewide CrossFit competition, but the host team took the title for the second year in a row.
CrossFit co-owner Seth Larson said this is only the third year for the competition, which is held once each year. Three years ago, his business had only been open about six months and the team took last place.
“We’ve been really lucky, we have a lot of people willing to put in the time and effort to improve their skills,” Larson said. “It has really started to shine through.”
CrossFit 7220 from Laramie came in second place and Cody’s team took third place.
Larson said the competition included three workouts in one day. The competition was for the most reps throughout the day.
CloudPeak’s team, comprised of Meagan Moore, Erika Jorgenson, Fielding Phillips, Larson, Kaylee Nygren and Tyler Harnish, racked up 2,938 reps for the day.
Laramie’s 7220 team was more than 250 reps behind at 2,681 and Cody’s third-place team completed 2,568 reps.
Larson said CloudPeak CrossFit hopes to send a team to the regional meet in Seattle this year. He said the group should know in about a month whether they qualified.
“The chances are pretty good this year,” Larson said, adding that the gym sent one woman to regionals last year and she finished 22nd out of more than 2,400 competitors.
