SHERIDAN — City Treasurer Jennifer Reed, who has worked for the city for six years, has announced she will be leaving her position at Sheridan City Hall. Reed said that she plans to pursue other opportunities within the community.
“The leadership experience I’ve gained is extremely valuable, and I’ve enjoyed working with such a highly supportive and competent accounting team,” Reed said in a media release. “The timing is currently very positive for me to make a professional change. I’m looking forward to taking on new challenges, exploring additional areas of accounting and further utilizing my background as a CPA.”
Reed is a Sheridan native who graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in accounting. She received her CPA certification and prior to her tenure as city treasurer she was a Senior Accountant with KPMG in Denver.
Reed moved back to Sheridan six years ago and was hired by the city of Sheridan as assistant treasurer to Clerk-Treasurer Art Elkins.
During her tenure, Reed was able to modernize the city’s accounting procedures through automation and online services. She also focused on developing higher levels of efficiency.
“The citizens of Sheridan have benefitted from Jennifer’s work on their behalf. She boosted our efforts to modernize,” Sheridan Mayor Dave Kinskey said.
“During Art Elkins’ tenure, we set upon a course of upgrading all of our accounting systems,” he added. “Jennifer, in turn, has continued those efforts in earnest. Our audits are completed more quickly, our utility bills are processed electronically and the department employees are on a program of cross-training.”
Kinskey said Reed will act as a consultant while the city recruits a replacement.
City Clerk Scott Badley will temporarily serve as acting treasurer. Badley served 10 years with the Wyoming Legislature’s Legislative Service Office and as assistant clerk-treasurer under Elkins.
In 2008 the city created separate clerk and treasurer positions. Badley and Reed were appointed to those positions before Elkin’s retirement.
