SHERIDAN — Children, Horses and Adults in PartnerShip held their ninth annual Volunteer Appreciation Party at the Red Velvet Bakery on Thursday.
All volunteers were recognized for their considerable contributions to the program, including recent Outstanding Volunteer of the Month for February, John Olson.
The evening culminated in the Outstanding Volunteer of 2012 Award. This honor is voted on by the volunteer staff, CHAPS staff and the board of directors. Sherry Buck and Jeff Gorzalka tied for this year’s award.
Buck was recognized for her commitment to excellence in session assistance as a horse leader and side walker.
Additionally, she and her husband, Wayne Buck, participate regularly as fundraising event staff and can be counted on to donate hay each fall.
Sherry Buck has been with the program for two years.
“She’s always willing to jump in wherever she is needed. She has a great attitude and the clients love her,” CHAPS instructor Jessica Ricchio said.
Gorzalka started out not knowing anything about horses, but has gone the extra mile to learn proper horse handling and safety techniques, and has become a valuable member of the morning team.
“Jeff is a perfect example of a model volunteer,” CHAPS Director Sue Suddith said. “He is dependable and eager to learn new things. Any program would be lucky to have Jeff on their staff.”
