Health fair @ VAHCS

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Veterans Affairs Health Care System will host a health and wellness fair Oct. 24-26 from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

The event will take place in the Sheridan VA’s auditorium and will include flu vaccinations, wellness checks and a lot of educational material.

Watercolor class @ Sheridan Senior Center

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Senior Center will host a watercolor painting course with Gail Sidletsky.

The class will begin Sept. 12 and run from 10 a.m. to noon each Tuesday for eight weeks.

The cost to participate is $25 per person for seniors registered with the center and $30 for all others.

Those interested are asked to sign up by Sept. 11 by calling the Sheridan Senior Center at 672-2240. A supply list will be provided.

The Sheridan Senior Center is located at 211 Smith St.

Livestrong @ YMCA

SHERIDAN — The next round of Livestrong at the YMCA will begin Tuesday.

Livestrong at the YMCA is a national program committed to reaching out to cancer survivors who deserve the opportunity to reclaim or gain their health following their cancer diagnosis and beyond. 

The 12-week program is free, takes place in a clean and supportive environment and is facilitated by specially trained instructors. The goal of this program is to provide cancer survivors with a unique healing experience in a supportive environment. It is open to all cancer survivors whether newly diagnosed or 20 years out. 

The program will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon between Sept. 19 and Dec. 14. Call Desiree Pearce at the YMCA for more information or to sign up, 674-7488.

The YMCA is located at 417 N. Jefferson St.

SHRM luncheon @ Sheridan Memorial Hospital downtown conference room

SHERIDAN — The Bighorn Mountain Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management will host a lunch training session Oct. 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The luncheon will include a training focusing on the power of stay interviews for engagement and retention. Dick Finnegan, CEO of C-Suite Analytics, will provide the presentation via web conference. 

RSVP for the lunch and program are required by Thursday at 10 a.m.

The cost is $13 for SHRM members and $15 for nonmembers.

‘Something Different’ @ The Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library staff will continue to host the after-school program “Something Different.” 

The programs geared toward tweens will focus on a different topic and hands-on activity each week.

The program is planned for Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m.

The Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library is located at 335 W. Alger St.

 

Norma @ The WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will offer a live, high-definition streamed performance of Vincenzo Bellini’s “Norma” as part of The Met Live in HD 2017-2018 season.

The show will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The show was rescheduled from Oct. 7.

The run time is just over three hours with one intermission.

This opera examines an ageless and archetypal situation: a powerful woman compromises her ideals for love, only to find herself betrayed by her lover.

Tickets for the show are $21 for adults and seniors and $11 for students.

Season tickets for The Met shows are available for $173.

Tickets may be purchased at the WYO Theater box office, online at wyotheater.com or by phone at 672-9084.

The WYO Theater is located at 42 N. Main St.

Halloween party @ The Best Western

SHERIDAN — The Best Western Sheridan Center will host a Halloween dance Friday starting at 5 p.m. to benefit the People Assistance Food Bank.

All ages are welcome to attend the event that will include dinner, dancing and a silent auction.

The cost for an Italian pasta bar dinner and the dance is $15. The cost for only the dance is $5 per person.

Cruisin’ Band will provide the live music.

All proceeds will benefit the People Assistance Food Bank.

The Best Western Sheridan Center is located at 612 N. Main St.
