Watercolor Society seeking entries for show @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library
May 26 all-day

SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Watercolor Society will host the Watercolor Wyoming 32nd annual National Exhibition in Sheridan Aug. 1-31 at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library.

Paintings in this show are also for sale. Members and non-members are encouraged to enter. Entries are due no later than June 1.

A prospectus can be found on the website, www.wyomingwatercolorsociety.com, or requested via email at wyomingwatercolorsociety2012@gmail.com. Membership information is also available. Awards will be given for Best of Show, Best Wyoming Artist, first through third place, honorable mentions and the People’s Choice Award.

Iain Stewart from Opelika, Alabama, will be the juror for the show and will select the award winners. Stewart will also teach a five-day workshop Aug. 14-18 at the Sheridan County Sportsman Gun Club. Stewart is a watercolor artist/illustrator and a signature member of both the American and National Watercolor Societies. His work has received numerous awards in international competition and he is a sought after juror and workshop instructor. He is also an architectural illustrator with an international clientele.

SHERIDAN — This weekend, hang-gliders will descend on Dayton.

Hang-gliders from across the nation come to the Bighorn Mountains to leap and soar above the valley. 

They will take off at Sand Turn turnout in the Bighorns, off Highway 14 just outside Dayton.

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Museum will host an open house Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The open house includes free admission and a 10 percent discount on all merchandise in the museum mercantile.

Burgess Junction Visitor Center to open next week @ Burgess Junction Visitor Center
May 27 @ 9:30 am – 5:00 pm

SHERIDAN — The Shell Falls Interpretive Site in the Bighorn National Forest will be closed in 2017 for reconstruction of the site’s interpretive trail.

Visitor services — information, education and interpretation — will be provided at the Burgess Junction Visitor Center, which is scheduled to open May 27 for the Memorial Day weekend.

The Burgess Junction Visitor Center is located about 30 miles west of Sheridan at the junction of U.S. Highway 14 and U.S. Highway 14A.

The visitor center will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week through Labor Day weekend.
