Healthy back class @ The YMCA

SHERIDAN — Back pain plagues many people, from simple muscle pangs and posture-related soreness to more serious discomfort from injury. The YMCA Healthy Back program was designed by medical professionals to help individuals strengthen their backs.

The Healthy Back class is preventative in nature, and consists of relaxation, stretching and gentle muscle strengthening exercises. Program participants will gradually learn a sequence of 15 exercises that can be done daily at home. The Healthy Back class is free to all members of the community and the class is limited to 15 participants. Interested individuals must sign up by calling the YMCA at 674-7488.

The class will take place from 12:15-1:15 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday from Oct. 2-18.

The YMCA is located at 417 N. Jefferson St.

Finances Class @ Sheridan Memorial Hospital downtown community conference room

SHERIDAN — Sheridan County Public Health will host a class, “Tactical Financial Education,” on Oct. 2, 5, 9 and 12 from 8:30-10 a.m. each day.

The class will help individuals understand their relationship with money — how to utilize practical financial skills, uncover the way you view money and make better decisions for you and your family.

The financial literacy class will focus on subjects such as financial philosophy, budgeting, insurance, credit profile, debt and more.

The class will cost $20 per person, with scholarships available from Sheridan County Public Health.

The class will take place at the Sheridan Memorial Hospital downtown community conference room at 61 S. Gould St.

Livestrong @ YMCA

SHERIDAN — The next round of Livestrong at the YMCA will begin Tuesday.

Livestrong at the YMCA is a national program committed to reaching out to cancer survivors who deserve the opportunity to reclaim or gain their health following their cancer diagnosis and beyond. 

The 12-week program is free, takes place in a clean and supportive environment and is facilitated by specially trained instructors. The goal of this program is to provide cancer survivors with a unique healing experience in a supportive environment. It is open to all cancer survivors whether newly diagnosed or 20 years out. 

The program will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon between Sept. 19 and Dec. 14. Call Desiree Pearce at the YMCA for more information or to sign up, 674-7488.

Watercolor class @ Sheridan Senior Center

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Senior Center will host a watercolor painting course with Gail Sidletsky.

The class will begin Sept. 12 and run from 10 a.m. to noon each Tuesday for eight weeks.

The cost to participate is $25 per person for seniors registered with the center and $30 for all others.

Those interested are asked to sign up by Sept. 11 by calling the Sheridan Senior Center at 672-2240. A supply list will be provided.

The Sheridan Senior Center is located at 211 Smith St.
