SHERIDAN — Karen McNenny will return to Sheridan this week for a number of events, including a community presentation set for 9 a.m. to noon Friday.

McNenny will help local groups learn to talk about their organizations so people want you to keep talking.

She’ll help you be ready when the next person asks, “What do you do?” You’ll be able to seize the opportunity and avoid fumbling for the right words.

The event will also help attendees develop the skills to speak effectively at the next networking social, public event or media opportunity. The cost of the presentation is $30 per person. It will take place at the Sheridan College Broadway Center, located at 245 Broadway St.

For more information, contact the Center for a Vital Community at 674-6446, ext. 4203.

Build a better world @ Sheridan County libraries
Jun 27 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

SHERIDAN — Sheridan area children, teens and adults are invited to participate in “Build a Better World,” Sheridan County libraries’ 2017 building-themed summer reading program.

The library encourages summer reading for entertainment and because it is important for young readers to keep reading while on summer break from school in order to maintain their reading skills. Numerous studies show that students often significantly lose their reading skill level during the summer if they do not read regularly.

The summer reading program this year runs through July 27.

The children’s library will host weekly story times; programs and activities will be held in the children’s library, with special guests from the community attending the preschool story time each week.

A new program will also be offered this year for youth entering fifth grade and up. The sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30-5 p.m. and will feature small building and crafting projects that participants can take home.

Adults and young adults wanting to participate in the summer reading program may pick up a punch card at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library circulation desk. For each book or other item checked out, the reader will receive one punch on the card. When the punches are complete on a card, the patron may choose a prize and start a new punch card.

The completed punch cards, with the name and phone number of the participants, are then entered into monthly drawings for larger prizes and for the grand finale prize at the end of the summer. The grand finale prize this year for adults and young adults will be $100 in Chamber Bucks.

The Story, Clearmont and Tongue River branch libraries are also holding summer reading programs with varying start dates and diverse program offerings. Contact the individual libraries for more details.
