Young at Heart Players to perform next week @ Sheridan Senior Center

SHERIDAN — The Young at Heart Players, under the direction of Pat Tomsovic, will present three performances next week. 

The group will perform “Who’s Herbert” and “Any Body for Tea.”

“Who’s Herbert” takes place in a retirement home as two women try to remember exactly who Herbert was married to and whether the man on stage is, in fact, Herbert.

“Any Body for Tea” concerns Detective Dennis O’Finn, who is investigating the death of an elderly lady.

Both plays will be performed at 1:30 p.m. March 9-11 at the Sheridan Senior Center.

The suggested contribution is $2 at the door.

The Sheridan Senior Center is located at 211 Smith St.

WYO to host ‘The Met: Live in HD’ @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will host the next edition of “The Met: Live in HD” on Saturday at 10:55 a.m.

The simulcast will feature a performance of Verdi’s “La Traviata.” 

“La Traviata” means “the fallen woman” or “the one who goes astray,” and refers to the main character, Violetta Valéry, a courtesan. 

Tickets for the show are $21 per person or $11 for students. Tickets may be purchased through the WYO Theater box office, wyotheater.com or 672-9084.

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater and Civic Theatre Guild will host auditions for the two groups’ 2017 co-production “The Musical of Musicals (the Musical)” on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. each night.

In the satire of musical theater, one story becomes five musicals, each written in the distinctive style of a different master of the form.

The comic valentine to musical theater was the longest running show in the York Theatre Company’s 35-year history before moving off-Broadway.

Those planning to audition should be prepared with a short piece that showcases their range.

Musical numbers are available for review at wyotheater.com. Those planning to audition should also be ready to dance.

Performance dates for the show will be May 12-14, May 19-21, and May 26-28 in the Mars Theater.

The hands-on painting class will help attendees improve their skills, discover new techniques and learn to paint directly from observation.

All levels are welcome to attend the class, which costs $150 for SAGE Community Arts members and $175 for nonmembers.

Civic Theatre Guild to offer ‘Crimes of the Heart’ starting Friday @ Carriage House Theater

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Civic Theatre Guild will perform “Crimes of the Heart” beginning Friday at the Carriage House Theater.

The play is set in Mississippi, where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of the family patriarch, their grandfather, who is living out his last hours in the local hospital. Their troubles, grave and yet, somehow, hilarious, are highlighted by their priggish cousin and an awkward young lawyer. 

In the end, the play is the story of how its characters escape the past to seize the future.

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $12 for seniors, students and military members. Tickets can be purchased through the WYO Theater box office, at wyotheater.com, by phone at 672-9084 or 90 minutes before each show at the Carriage House Theater.

Performance dates include March 17-19, March 24-26 and March 31 through April 2.

KLIFE to present communication workshop @ Sheridan Wesleyan Church.

SHERIDAN — KLIFE has organized an interactive communication workshop for March 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sheridan Wesleyan Church.

The event integrates media, culture and scripture to bring generations together and learn healthy ways to communicate.

The cost of the workshop is $10 per person and includes lunch.

The fast-paced, one-act musical will be performed at 7 p.m. March 23 and 9:30 a.m. March 24.

Both performances will take place in the Holy Name parish hall.

Adapted from the story of Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving, the show will be presented in the style of an old-time radio broadcast.

Admission to the event is free, although donations will be accepted at the door. Holy Name parish hall is located at 260 E. Loucks St.

Beloved ‘Frog and Toad’ coming to the WYO Theater @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will host a production of “A Year with Frog and Toad” on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Based on Arnold Lobel’s well-loved books, the jazzy, upbeat score bubbles with melody. Part vaudeville and part make-believe, “A Year with Frog and Toad” tells the story of a friendship that endures.

This whimsical show follows two great friends — the cheerful, popular Frog, and the rather grumpy Toad — through four fun-filled seasons.

Landon’s to offer workshops on herbs, gardens for kids @ Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery

SHERIDAN — Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery will offer three workshops this weekend.

On Saturday at 1 p.m., part two of the herbal intensive workshop will be offered. This workshop is free and open to the public.

At 3 p.m. Saturday, a hands-on workshop on edible gardens for kids will teach children the basics of what it takes to grow vegetables. The fee for this workshop is based on the products used.

On Sunday at 3 p.m., a workshop on hydroponics and vertical gardening will provide knowledge to boost your confidence to start your own growing system.

A prize drawing will be held directly after workshops for those who call and pre-register before 5 p.m. Friday.

Bruce Kuhn to perform in ‘Luke’ @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — Broadway actor Bruce Kuhn will perform the one-man production entitled “Luke” on Friday at 7 p.m. at the WYO Theater.

The show, brought to the community by Grace Anglican Church, Cornerstone Church and Pastors United in Christ, is a version of the Broadway hit “The Gospel of Mark.”

SHERIDAN — The Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College will present the theater department’s spring musical, “George and the Dragon,” written and directed by Big Horn resident Doug Sheehan on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

This is the second play written by Sheehan performed at SC. The first was an original piece for the Big West Arts Festival in 2008.

The SC production will star professional actor Mokey McNeilly as George. SC students and community members will fill out the cast.

Performances will take place Saturday through Monday at 7:30 p.m. each night. There will also be a matinée performance Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tickets to all four performances are available through the WYO Theater box office, by phone at 672-9084 or online at wyotheater.com.
