Big Horn Woman’s Club holiday bazaar set for Nov. 12 @ Big Horn Woman’s Club clubhouse

Sagebrush Art Center to host Retrospective show, reception @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host a reception for its annual Retrospective Show on Nov. 17 from 5-7 p.m.

The show honors artists with long, productive careers in the Sheridan area.

The artists featured this year will be Nancie Furnish, Claire Leon and Connie Robinson.

Furnish is a second-generation glass artist. She moved to Cheyenne in 1971, where she opened her own studio and gallery. In 1992, she and her family moved to Sheridan. Her work has been mainly private and commercial work by commission.

Leon, a photographer, has lived in Story since 1959. Her serious interest in photography began with classes and Sheridan College in 1995. Leon is passionate about capturing the beauty of the landscape and flora in the Bighorn Mountain region.

Robinson is an oil painter and graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1974. Initially, she produced artwork as a commercial illustrator. A painter of wildlife and the regional landscape, the great outdoors remains a dominating force in Robinson’s work.

The show will be on display through Dec. 30. The reception is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

St. Peter’s Christmas bazaar set for Nov. 19 @ St. Peter’s Episcopal Church

SHERIDAN — St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will host its annual Christmas bazaar on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will include handcrafted items, jewelry, homemade delectables, vintage furniture and treasures. 

A luncheon will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. that will cost $6 a plate.

All proceeds are given to local, state, national and international organizations.

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Swim Team arts and crafts bazaar will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds.

The event will include arts and crafts all hand crafted by vendors manning 95 tables. A lunch and bake sale will also be available for purchase.

Woodland Park holiday bazaar to feature variety of vendors @ Woodland Park Elementary

SHERIDAN — Woodland Park Elementary School will host a bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will include a variety of vendors with a wide range of products, services and crafts for sale for the holiday season.

A walking taco and bake sale fundraiser will also be hosted by Woodland Park fifth-grade students.

Dayton Art Loop and Bazaar set for Saturday @ Tongue River Valley Community Center is located

SHERIDAN — The Dayton Art Loop and Bazaar will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will showcase artistic talent in the Tongue River Valley. Activities will include a tour of the studios of local artists and a bazaar.

Holiday Show ‘Dimensions of Nature’ at The Brinton @ Brinton Museum

Craft bazaar in Ranchester to include a free chili lunch @ Ranchester town hall

Artists to show off work at ‘Jentel Presents’ @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — Jentel will present its current artists in residence at the Sagebrush Community Art Center on Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m.

The artists will give presentations about the art on which they are working at Jentel.

Presenters for November include mixed media artist Mary Bergs of Minneapolis, Minnesota; found materials artist Lisa Hochstein of Santa Cruz, California; encaustic painter, Mona Monroe of Alta, Wyoming; essayist Catherine Jagoe of Madison, Wisconsin; novelist Lisa Lee of Los Angeles, California; and sculptor Andrew Redington of Berlin, Wisconsin.

Craft, sweet holiday bazaars continue Saturday

SC to host reception for DeVuono art show Thursday @ Whitney Center for the Arts

SHERIDAN — Sheridan College will host a reception for Lanny DeVuono’s new show on display in the Whitney Center for the Arts. The reception will take place Thursday from 5-7 p.m.

The exhibition, “Outer Space,” comes to Sheridan from the Denver Contemporary Art Museum.

DeVuono uses landscape imagery as a metaphor to examine both the physical environment in which we live, as well as the social and psychological environments of our expectations.

In this series at Sheridan College, she is interested in the current privatization of space research, historical parallels with past explorations as well as the fast changing environments of the earth.

DeVuono is an associate professor at the University of Colorado Denver and has taught at Eastern Washington University, New York University, William Paterson University, Rangsit University in Thailand and Trivandrum College of Fine Art in India.

She also writes on contemporary art under the name Frances DeVuono.  

DeVuono’s work will be on display through Jan. 22.

SAGE to host 7th annual National Juried Art Show @ Sagebrush Community Art Center’s new space

SHERIDAN — Sheridan Artists Guild Et al will host its seventh annual National Juried Art Show in February and has put out a call for art to be featured in the show.

Heather Plank will serve as the juror for the first show in the guild’s new space downtown.

Plank has a bachelor’s degree in printmaking from the University of Oregon and established the residency program and gallery at the Ucross Foundation, among other accomplishments and training.

The show will open Feb. 2 and a reception and awards event will take place that day from 5-7 p.m. at the Sagebrush Community Art Center’s new space at 21 W. Brundage St.

Brinton to display student art in February @ Brinton Museum

BIG HORN — The Brinton Museum will again partner with local elementary schools to present the second annual All-Schools Fifth-Grade Student Art Show, featuring original art by fifth-grade students from nine schools throughout Sheridan and Johnson counties. 

The student art show opens in the Forrest E. Mars, Jr. Building’s Jacomien Mars Reception Gallery on Thursday. A reception for the artists will take place Friday from 5:30-7:30 p.m., and is free and open to the public. 

Admission to the student art exhibit through Feb. 17 is free for students and teachers.

The All-Schools Fifth-Grade Student Art Show offers fifth-graders the unique opportunity to showcase their artistic talents in a professional, museum setting and share their classroom art projects with the public. 

“We are happy to again highlight art by young students in a special show at The Brinton Museum,” Museum Director Kenneth Schuster said in a press release. “This event gives students the chance to experience first-hand how a fine art museum functions as a valuable resource to the community, and that museums are a great place to see great art!” 

The All-Schools Fifth-Grade Student Art Show is available to guests through Feb. 17.

SC to host father, daughter art exhibit, reception @ Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — Internationally-renowned artist Theodore Waddell, who has gifted the college his entire print collection, printing press and materials to Sheridan College, will give a presentation with his daughter, local artist Arin Waddell, on Feb. 16 from 5-7 p.m.  

Theodore Waddell most often paints freely-rendered range animals roaming the vast plains of eastern Montana. He is known for expressionist animal and landscape painting and sculpture. Waddell was born in Laurel, Montana, and studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art School; Eastern Montana College; and Wayne State University, Detroit (MFA, 1968). He taught at the University of Montana from 1968 to 1976 and has since been a full-time artist and rancher.  He has had more than 90 one-man exhibitions, including a major survey at the Eiteljorg Museum, Indianapolis. Waddell’s work has been singled out in reviews in the Washington Post and The New York Times, and was the subject of a Newsweek article. 

The Waddells will work with Sheridan area high school students on Feb. 15 and Sheridan College students on Feb. 16. 

On Feb. 16, from 5-7 p.m., the Whitney Center for the Arts will host an opening artist reception for Theodore Waddell and Arin Waddell. Both of their works will be on display in their latest exhibition: Waddell + Waddell. This reception is free and open to the public. The public is welcome to attend, view the works and meet the artists. 

Waddell + Waddell is on display through March 10.

SAGE to host ‘Modern Masters’ @ SAGE Community Arts

Get Out and Shop set for Saturday @ The Sheridan Wesleyan Church

Get Out and Shop features nearly 40 vendors offering all types of goods and services. There is no charge for admission to the event.

Ucross new exhibit reception @ Ucross Foundation Art Gallery

UCROSS — The Ucross Foundation has opened a new show in its art gallery, “Views from Oregon: Sixteen artists.”

The show opened Feb. 6 and will run through May 12. A reception will take place April 22 from 4-6 p.m.

All 16 artists participating in the show are from Oregon and were artists in residence at Ucross between 2013-2016.

The Ucross Foundation Art Gallery is located at 30 Big Red Lane in Ucross.

SC to host reception for student show @ Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — The Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College will present the 70th annual Sheridan College Student Juried Art Exhibition. The exhibition is on display through May 14 in the Edward A. Whitney Gallery. The opening reception will take place May 4 from 5-7 p.m.

The exhibition was juried by local artist Joel Ostlind. Twenty-four Sheridan College students submitted work and 18 were selected to show. Those exhibiting are Taryn Bohlman, Shaelyn Moore Hytrek, Rebekah Blommel, Nichole Wolz, Lydia Johnson, Kari Lentz, Jonathan Kibodeaux, Helene Todd, Emily Swanson, Elijah McClendon, Dylan Campbell Peterson, Diana Goodrich, David Danielson, Colleen Swan, Cecilia Riddle, Ashlee Purcella and Trudy Schoonover.

The pieces were installed by Sheridan College students Nichole Wrigley and Jonathan Kibodeaux.

The Edward A. Whitney Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.

The reception is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

Universal Language of Birds @ Ucross Foundation

UCROSS — For bird lovers and art lovers alike, Saturday will provide an opportunity to experience a combination of the two, through a series of events at the Ucross Foundation Art Gallery. 

To celebrate the opening of the exhibition “The Universal Language of Birds” by Christina Baal, a day of festivities will take place, building connections between people, art, science, birds and all of the natural world.

Events will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include a morning talk on birding and nature journaling, and guided bird walks on the Ucross Ranch, culminating with an artist’s talk and gallery reception starting at noon.

Dr. Jackie Canterbury, President of Bighorn Audubon, will join Christina Baal to lead the day’s activities.

Inspired by Baal’s dedication to public engagement, the exhibition will also include bird-related art submitted by the local community, such as a painting by Worland artist Victoria Bales, and from the national Ucross community, such as poems by Pittsburgh poet and Ucross fellow J.C. Todd.

The community art will also be catalogued online at www.drawingtenthousandbirds.com, a website created by Baal intended to develop a community of “citizen artists.”

The following is the schedule of events:

• 9 a.m. — doors open at the Ucross Art Gallery

• 9:30-10 a.m., presentation by Baal and Canterbury, with tips on birding and nature journaling

• 10 a.m. to noon — Guided bird walks led by Baal and Canterbury, starting from Big Red 

• Noon — gallery reception begins

• 1 p.m. — Artist talk by Baal

• 3 p.m. — reception concludes

Morning participants will receive nature journals and a copies of “Recognizing 10 Common Birds of Ucross and Wyoming,” created by Baal for the event. Participants should wear weather appropriate attire and binoculars are recommended (a few will be on hand for guest use).

The Ucross Foundation Art Gallery is located one-half mile east of the intersection of Highways 14 and 16 East in Ucross.
