Six Appeal to perform at the WYO Theater @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — Six Appeal — a vocal ensemble — will perform at the WYO Theater on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The ensemble will take the audience on a journey that spans decades of music — all performed a cappella.

Prism ‘17 to perform at college @ Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — The Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College will present Prism ‘17 featuring MEAT on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Joining MEAT will be the Sheridan College Flute Choir, members of the Sheridan College viola da gamba consort and Faculty MEAT.

In the 1980s, the Eastman School of Music initiated what it called a Prism Concert, a nonstop program that showcased many facets of its world-famous music program. Sheridan College continues this musical tradition.

The Sheridan College Music Ensemble of Audio Technology (MEAT) was founded in 2011 to provide an opportunity for ensemble playing to our music tech students who don’t play a band or orchestra instrument. Inspired by the Boulder Laptop Orchestra at Colorado University and the Stanford Laptop Orchestra, the group makes use of handheld devices, laptops, synthesizersand other electronic instruments to create music.

The concert is free and open to the public. Information on this concert and all other Whitney Center for the Arts events can be found at whitneyarts.org.

WYO Theater to host ‘A Tribute to Segovia’ @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will host “A Tribute to Segovia” by Andy Hackbarth on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Guitar virtuoso Andy Hackbarth will pay tribute to the “Father of the Classical Guitar,” Andres Segovia, through an eclectic musical journey.

Tickets for the show cost $19 for adults, $16.50 for seniors and military members and $13 for students.

The event will take place in the Mars Theater and tickets are general admission.

Lions Club organizes concert @ Best Western Sheridan Center

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Lions Club has organized a fundraising concert for April 30 at 7 p.m.

The concert will feature the band Yesterdayze, a band that features music from the ‘60s.

The event will take place at the Best Western Sheridan Center. Tickets cost $10 apiece. For additional information or tickets, call 751-6800.

The dinner will be catered by Killy’s Deli and will cost $12 per person. The meeting will also include a fun craft activity.

Akcita Win is a women’s sorority and is open to the public.

Story Historical Society to gather @ Story Woman’s Club

Republican Women of Sheridan County to meet Monday @ Sheridan Inn

SHERIDAN — The Republican Women of Sheridan County will hold a lunch meeting before its summer recess on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Sheridan Inn.

Melinda Brennan, scholarship chair, will announce the Sheridan County woman who has been selected as the 2017 recipient of a $1,000 scholarship to the college of her choice. Anna Bailey will collect 2017 dues and a member will be featured with a “Red Boot” presentation.

Jen Crouse, executive director of the Sheridan College Foundation, will update the organization on the work of the foundation.

SC bands to offer outdoor concert @ Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College bands will perform in an outdoor concert Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The event will also include an ice cream social, and will take place at the Whitney Mall.

In the case of inclement weather, the concert will take place in the Whitney Center for the Arts concert hall.

Sheridan County Youth Chorale to perform Wednesday @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Children’s and Youth Chorale will perform with the Sagebrush Folk Dancers on Wednesday at the WYO Theater.

The show, entitled “Turn the World Around,” will feature songs celebrating the sights and sounds from around the world. The dancers will offer traditional dances from around the world.

Tickets for the event are $5 for adults, seniors and students. Children age 12 and under get in for $3 apiece.

SHS to perform Big Band Bash @ The Kalif Shrine

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School Spectrum and Jazz bands will perform in a Big Band Bash fundraiser on Wednesday at the Kalif Shrine auditorium.

The bands are under the direction of Ashley Lecholat and Diane Knutson and will be accompanied by Lisa Robertson.

The show will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The performance is a fundraiser for the bands and the cost to attend is $10 per person.

The Brinton to host birding breakfast @ The Brinton Museum

SHERIDAN — The Brinton Museum and Bighorn Audubon Society has invited area residents to participate in a Birding at the Brinton breakfast Saturday from 9-10 a.m.

The breakfast will celebrate The Brinton’s newly designated status as an important bird area.

A light breakfast with pastries, fresh fruit, coffee and juice will be available on The Brinton lawn. In the event of rain, breakfast will take place in the lobby of the Forrest E. Mars Jr. Building.

Birding at The Brinton will follow from 10 a.m. to noon.

BHCHS to meet Sunday @ Big Horn Woman’s Club clubhouse
May 21 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

BIG HORN — The Big Horn City Historical Society will meet Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Big Horn Woman’s Club clubhouse.

A potluck lunch will start at 1 p.m. with a program to follow.

This month’s program will focus on “Big Nose George: On the Cold Trail of an Outlaw.”

In 1878, a gang of outlaws from the Powder River country entered Carbon County, attempted a train robbery and subsequently perpetrated the murder of two law enforcement officers. Big Nose George Parott was a principal figure in the gang and successfully avoided justice for the crime until 1880 when he was arrested in Montana.

This program discusses the crime, events leading up to it and the aftermath.

Dr. Mark E. Miller, a retired Wyoming state archaeologist, will lead the program. His great-grandfather, Ike C. Miller, was Carbon County sheriff at the time Big Nose George was hanged in Rawlins by a group of angry citizens.

Back country horsemen highway clean-up

The group will meet approximately 9 miles east of Interstate 90 on Highway 14 East for a highway clean-up.

‘Allegiance’ to show at the WYO @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will host a showing of “Allegiance” on May 24 at 6:30 p.m.

The film is a version of a Broadway musical about a family living through the Japanese internment in the U.S. during World War II.

Tickets are $11.75 apiece and are available at the WYO Theater box office or website, wyotheater.com. A daytime showing is also planned for junior high and high school students.

Wyoming Baroque concert @ Sheridan College Whitney Center for the Arts

SHERIDAN — The Whitney Center for the Arts will celebrate art and music Friday with a concert by Wyoming Baroque.
Wyoming Baroque brings together nationally-known artists specializing in historically informed performances of 17th and 18th century repertoire as well contemporary compositions featuring instruments built to the same specifications. While the performers are based throughout the country, the ensemble is in residence at Sheridan College.
The concert will feature a brand new work, “The Temple,” by Sheridan’s own Mark Elliot Bergman. The Temple is based upon a H.P. Lovecraft’s short story first published in Pulp magazine in 1925. The story tells of a German U-boat officer named Altberg-Ehrenstein during World War I. After sinking a British freighter, the German U-boat crew finds an ancient, carved, ivory pendant on the body of a dead British sailor. One of the officers decides to keep the carving and soon after, members of the crew begin to go mad.
Concert tickets cost $20 for adults and $15 for students; they are available through the WYO Theater box office. More information can be found at WhitneyArts.org.

SHERIDAN — Andy Nelson and Brenn Hill — Cowboys in Concert — will perform at the WYO Theater at 7 p.m. Friday.

Hill is a singer/songwriter, while Nelson is an energetic and high-spirited cowboy poet. Together they bring the Western way of life to the stage.

RANCHESTER — The Buckshot Saloon in Ranchester will host Hay Daze on Saturday.

The inaugural event will begin with a parade through Ranchester at 10 a.m.

The event will also include Kona Ice, booths for children, food and drink specials.

The InstaGators and Tris Munsick and the Innocents will perform, with music starting at 5:30 p.m.
