Big Horn Woman’s Club to gather Friday @ Big Horn Woman’s Club clubhouse

BIG HORN — The February meeting for the Big Horn Woman’s Club will take place Friday at 1:30 p.m.  

The program will be presented by Dr. Sam Hoffmann about “Aging of the Eyes.” The meeting is free and open to all women.

Polka club to host monthly dance @ Elks Lodge

SHERIDAN — The Big Horn Mountain Polka Club will host a dance Sunday at the Sheridan Elks Lodge #520.

The dance will be from 1-5 p.m. with music by Country Vocal Band.

All are welcome. The event will include polka, waltzes, two-steps and many more dances.

The Elks Lodge is located at 45 W. Brundage St.

Sheridan County Extension to offer free nutrition classes @ Watt Agriculture Building

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Extension Office will offer free nutrition classes through its Cent$ible Nutrition Program in January and February.

The classes will be offered on Mondays from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Watt Agriculture Building. The classes will take place Jan. 9, Jan. 23, Jan. 30, Feb. 6, Feb. 13 and Feb. 20.

Those who attend will cook, try new recipes and learn to save money on food. If you attend the entire series of classes, you’ll receive a free cookbook.

Chamber Coffee planned for Big Horn next week @ Big Horn Smokehouse

BIG HORN — The next Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce coffee will take place Feb. 22 at 8 a.m. at the Big Horn Smokehouse and Saloon.

The event is brought to the community by the Chamber’s Business Retention and Expansion Committee as a way to network and discuss important issues with all the communities within Sheridan County.

The Big Horn Smokehouse is located at 158 Johnson St. in Big Horn.

Ringley to present at BHCHS @ Big Horn Woman’s Club clubhouse

BIG HORN — Tom Ringley will give a presentation Sunday at the Big Horn City Historical Society meeting.

A carry-in potluck lunch will begin at 1 p.m. with the program to follow.

Ringley will give a presentation on his book titled “Wranglin’ Notes — A Chronicle of Eaton’s Ranch 1879-2010.”

He will tell the history of the Eaton brothers when they started their guest ranch business in 1879 in Medora, North Dakota. 

The meeting will take place at the Big Horn Woman’s Club clubhouse, located at 314 S. Second St.

Archaeological Society to gather Thursday @ Holiday Inn

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan/Johnson County Chapter of the Wyoming Archaeological Society will have its monthly meeting Thursday at the Holiday Inn.

Those planning to attend should see the hostess at the restaurant for the meeting location. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. with the speaker starting around 7 p.m. Attendees may join for dinner, the speaker or both.

The speaker this month is Cynde Georgen with the Trail End Museum. Georgen will present “Subjects of the Mikado: Sheridan’s Japanese Community, 1900-1930.” The presentation will explore one of the area’s lost populations and is based on an article published in Annals of Wyoming in 2003, “Subjects of the Mikado.”

Georgen will discuss why the Japanese suddenly arrived in Sheridan, why they left so abruptly and what they did while they lived here.

Georgen is the site superintendent at the Trail End State Historic Site in Sheridan.

Landon’s Greenhouse to offer three classes this weekend @ Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery

SHERIDAN — Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery will host three workshops this weekend.

The first class, which is free and open to the public, will focus on what, when and how to prune. It will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The second class, for which you only pay for the materials you use, will allow kids and adults to get creative in exploring fairy gardening. The class will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Also, on Sunday at 1 p.m., a free class will focus on when and where to start your spring clean-up efforts.

A prize drawing will be held directly after the workshops for those who call and pre-register before 5 p.m. on the Friday prior to the workshop. Call 672-8340 to sign up, or stop by the greenhouse at 505 College Meadows Drive.

Landon’s will also host its weekly farmers market Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

AARP to gather Friday @ Heritage Towers

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan chapter of the AARP will gather Friday at the Heritage Towers dining room.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a potluck dinner and the meeting will start at 5:50 p.m. 

The program will include a legislative update from Wayne Schatz, AARP legislative chair for Northeast Wyoming.

Those planning to attend are asked to bring $3 and a potluck dish to share.

The event integrates media, culture and scripture to bring generations together and learn healthy ways to communicate.

On Saturday at 1 p.m., part two of the herbal intensive workshop will be offered. This workshop is free and open to the public.

At 3 p.m. Saturday, a hands-on workshop on edible gardens for kids will teach children the basics of what it takes to grow vegetables. The fee for this workshop is based on the products used.

On Sunday at 3 p.m., a workshop on hydroponics and vertical gardening will provide knowledge to boost your confidence to start your own growing system.
