American Legion Auxiliary to conduct Buddy Poppy drive @ Kmart and Walmart

SHERIDAN — Members of the American Legion Auxiliary will conduct a Buddy Poppy drive Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The members will be at Kmart and Walmart during those times.

Proceeds from the drive support veterans.

Buddy Poppies are made by veterans, used as therapy and a fundraiser with the motto “Honor the dead by helping the living,” in mind.

Our Camp organizing bowl-a-thon @ Cloud Peak Lanes

SHERIDAN — Our Camp, Inc., a summer camp for individuals with disabilities will hold its inaugural bowl-a-thon Saturday. Two bowling times are available: 11 a.m. to noon or noon to 1 p.m.

The event will be held at Cloud Peak Lanes in Sheridan. Participants can participate as individuals or teams of 2-5 bowlers and are being asked to secure donations for their participation.

All proceeds benefit Our Camp, Inc., a volunteer-run nonprofit summer camp serving individuals of all ages with disabilities. Founded in 1992 by the “Baker Sisters” of Sheridan, Our Camp has provided thousands of campers and volunteers the opportunity to build friendships and make memories through the camping experience. Camps occur each year in Story and Glendo, and serve campers from around the region.

Bowl-a-thon proceeds will fund scholarships for campers who may not otherwise be able to attend due to financial limitations.

WGFD meeting on wolf hunting, other issues @ WGFD regional office

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Region of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department will host a public meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Sheridan Regional Office.

The purpose of the meeting is to gather public input on proposed wolf hunting seasons, wildlife damage claims, mountain lion hunting seasons and aquatic invasive species regulations. This meeting is one of several being held across Wyoming to discuss these issues.

All interested parties are encouraged to attend. Written comments will be accepted at the public meeting or through 5 p.m. June 12 for mountain lion hunting seasons, damage claims and AIS regulation and through 5 p.m. June 19 for wolf hunting seasons through the online comment form or by mail to Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Regulations 3030 Energy Lane Casper, WY 82604.

Suicide prevention training with Cynthia Cloud @ Sheridan Senior Center

SHERIDAN — Wyoming State Auditor Cynthia Cloud will give the keynote address at the Light in the Darkness suicide prevention presentation and training Wednesday.

Cloud lost her son to suicide in 2016.

Dinner will be provided at the event set for 6-8 p.m. at the Sheridan Senior Center.

Liquor Dealers Association golf tournament @ Kendrick Municipal Golf Course

SHERIDAN — The annual Sheridan County Liquor Dealers Association golf tournament will begin at 10 a.m. June 4 at Kendrick Municipal Golf Course.

Those planning to participate should choose their own four-person team. 

The cost is $85 per golfer and includes beverages and lunch.

The annual tournament is a fundraiser, with all proceeds going toward the SCLDA scholarship fund and Safe Ride.

Sign-ups are available at Kendrick Golf Course, OK Corral, Beaver Creek Saloon and Star Liquor.

Walk for Life @ Legacy Pregnancy Resource Center

SHERIDAN — The Legacy Pregnancy Resource Center will host its annual Walk for Life on Saturday.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 a.m.

The 2-mile walk along Sheridan’s pathways will start and end at the center next to Washington Park.

There is no entry fee, but many participants are sponsoring themselves or asking others to sponsor them to raise funds for the center.

Light refreshments will be served and a inflatable obstacle course will be available for kids.

All funds raised will support the center, a faith-based organization that serves families facing unexpected pregnancy.

Family FunFest @ Sheridan County YMCA soccer fields

SHERIDAN — A Family FunFest will benefit The Food Group in Sheridan Saturday from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at the YMCA soccer fields on Jefferson Street.

The event will include bouncy houses, a climbing wall, burgers and hot dogs.

Donations will be accepted at the gates.

The Food Group works to keep the children of Sheridan County from being hungry.

SHERIDAN — Spirits of America, a tasting experience, will benefit Joey’s Foundation, which introduces children to fly fishing while fostering a lifelong passion and appreciation for the outdoors.

Spirits of America, set to begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Spur Ranch, will feature spirits from distilleries located across the country.

Tickets are $60 in advance or $75 at the door and are available at Tom Balding Bits and Spurs, Star Liquor, T and C Liquors and Joey’s Foundation.

Pint Night for Antelope Butte @ Black Tooth Brewing Company

SHERIDAN — The Black Tooth Brewing Company will host a pint night to benefit the Antelope Butte Mountain Recreation Area on June 20 from 5-10 p.m.

During that time, $1 from each pint will be donated to the nonprofit effort to reopen the ski area.

ABF board members and staff will be on hand to answer questions and tickets will be available for the nonprofit’s summer events.

Wyoming Board of Education meeting @ Sheridan County School District 2

SHERIDAN — The Wyoming State Board of Education will conduct a one-day meeting in Sheridan on June 22. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at the Sheridan County School District 2 central office, located at 201 N. Connor St. 

The SBE will hear reports from SBE coordinator Dr. Thomas Sachse, Wyoming Department of Education liaison Lisa Weigel and WDE staff about accreditation, an update on Every Student Succeeds Act, the Professional Judgment Panel and Advisory Committee, JEIC reports, alternative schedule and school performance ratings, and an update on Chapters 6, 10, and 31.

The board will also hear updates from SBE committees and will take action on recommendations.

Following the meeting, the WDE will conduct a community input meeting on Wyoming’s Social Studies Content and Performance Standards as they pertain to Wyoming’s new “American Indian education program” legislation. These meetings will inform the public of the standards review process and gather public input to be shared with the Social Studies Standards Review Committee for their consideration prior to their work.

A presentation will discuss House Enrolled Act 119 and the process to ensure the cultural heritage, history and contemporary contributions of American Indians are addressed in the review of the Social Studies Standards.

Participants will be asked to respond to two questions:

• Why is it important for everyone to learn about American Indians?

• What do you want the review committee to know about the cultural heritage, history, and contemporary contributions of American Indians as they review the Social Studies Standards?

The community input meeting will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the SCSD2 central office. 

Those unable to attend can also respond online through Sept. 8.

SHERIDAN — Brewery Bingo set for Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Black Tooth Brewing Company will benefit the Suds n’ Spurs Brewfest.

The cost to play is $3 per card with a three-card maximum. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce to support the brewfest.

Tickets for the brewfest and raffle items will be available.

The Suds n’ Spurs Brewfest is scheduled for Aug. 26 from 2-7 p.m. at Whitney Commons.

SHERIDAN — The Black Tooth Brewing Company will host Casting for Brews on Friday from noon to 11 p.m.

The street dance will begin at noon and run through the evening. Streets open at noon with fly casting taking place from noon to 4 p.m. Live music will be offered by Doug Andrews and Shot in the Foot with Ian Munsick headlining.

Food trucks will also be on site and attendees can check out gear from Patagonia, Abel Reels, Thomas & Thomas Fly Fishing and Cortland Line.

SHERIDAN — The Model A and Pioneer Car Club of Sheridan and Johnson counties will cruise to the Ranch at Ucross Sunday for lunch.

Those in Buffalo will meet at the Big Horn Tire parking lot at 11 a.m. Those in Sheridan will meet at the Maverick on the south side of Sheridan at 11 a.m.

The guest speaker will be Kathy Kay from the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter. The group will have a “pet shower” with those attending bringing toys, treats, dog collars, bleach, laundry detergent or anything they can think of to donate to the shelter.  

Akcita Win is a women’s club that meets once a month and is open to the public, however reservations need to be called to Connie Goodwin at 751-2550.

UMC parking lot sale @ First United Methodist Church

SHERIDAN — The United Methodist men will host a parking lot sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

For this annual event, members of the public are invited to rent space to sell their items and just stop by to shop and grab a bite to eat. 

Coffee and cinnamon rolls will be available for purchase for breakfast and hamburgers will be available for lunch. 

You can rent a space and bring your own table for $10, rent space and one table for $15 or space and two tables for $20. If you don’t want to go through the trouble of setting up to sell the “treasures” you have accumulated over the years, you can donate the items and UMC will sell them. UMC will pick up donated items on the Thursday and Friday before the sale. 

As in past years, The Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity Restore will be notified to come down at the end of the sale and have their pick of any of the items leftover. Sheridan Foster Parent Exchange has also been invited to come down and pick from whatever is left after the sale. 

To reserve tables/spaces, or schedule a pick-up for donated items call Rollie Hein at 763-2141 or call the church office at 672-9779. All the proceeds from the donated items, tables and food will go to the men’s group at the church. In the past year, the Methodist Men’s Group has donated money or gift cards to Volunteers of America, Lunch Together, Circle J Camp, The Food Group, Christmas Coat Tree, Native American Ministries and Project Graduation.

9/11 remembrance ceremony @ Sheridan Fire-Rescue

SHERIDAN — Sheridan Fire-Rescue will host a remembrance ceremony Sept. 11 to honor those lost in the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, Pentagon and the crash site in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

All local law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and the public are invited to the event, which will take place at the SFR station.

The ceremony will begin at 7:50 a.m. It will include ringing of the LaFrance bell at the time the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed. A moment of silence will follow along with the release of doves, an invocation and bag pipe performance.

Out of the Darkness Walk @ Whitney Commons Park

SHERIDAN — The seventh annual Sheridan County Out of the Darkness Walk will take place Saturday at 9 a.m. The event will begin at Whitney Commons Park.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10:30 a.m.

The walk aims to support those who have been affected by suicide, raise awareness of depression and other mental illnesses and raise funds for suicide prevention research and program development. Dining for a Cause @ Frackelton’s

One hundred percent of sales and gratuities will be donated by Frackelton’s to the nonprofit organization.
