Wuerker to host oil painting classes @ SAGE Community Arts

SHERIDAN — Local artist Jenny Wuerker will host a series of oil painting classes each Wednesday between March 15 and May 24.

The hands-on painting class will help attendees improve their skills, discover new techniques and learn to paint directly from observation.

All levels are welcome to attend the class, which costs $150 for SAGE Community Arts members and $175 for nonmembers.

Jentel Presents set for Tuesday @ SAGE Community Arts

SHERIDAN — Jentel Artist Residency Program will offer the next round of Jentel Presents Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m. downstairs at SAGE Community Arts.

This month’s presenters include mixed media artist Susan Holloway, of Washington, D.C.; printmaker Julia Dee Kjelgaard, of Auburn, Alabama; memoirist Shizue Seigel, of San Francisco, California;  installation artist Gloria Lamson, of Port Townsend, Washington; novelist Robert E. Tanner, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and oil painter Ann Piper, of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.

SAGE Community Arts is located at 21 W. Brundage St. There is no admission charge for “Jentel Presents” and light refreshments are available.

Kalif Shriners Carnival set for weekend @ Trails End Concert Park
May 4 @ 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm

SHERIDAN — The Kalif Shriners’ Carnival will take place Thursday through Sunday at the Trails End Concert Park.

The event will include a full-blown carnival with rides, games, prizes and food.

Dreamland Carnival Company of Bridger, Montana, will bring the even to town to help kick start the summer.

Reduced price pre-sale all-day armbands will be available at the Kalif Temple or Trails End Motel front desk until Wednesday. Pre-sale armbands cost $20 and are good for the entire day for all rides.

Regular priced armbands will be available during the event and will cost $25 apiece.

The carnival will take place from 3 p.m. to at least 10 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to at least 10 p.m. Saturday and will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, with the closing time to be determined.

The Trails End Concert Park is located at 2125 N. Main St.

SC to host reception for student show @ Sheridan College
May 4 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

SHERIDAN — The Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College will present the 70th annual Sheridan College Student Juried Art Exhibition. The exhibition is on display through May 14 in the Edward A. Whitney Gallery. The opening reception will take place May 4 from 5-7 p.m.

The exhibition was juried by local artist Joel Ostlind. Twenty-four Sheridan College students submitted work and 18 were selected to show. Those exhibiting are Taryn Bohlman, Shaelyn Moore Hytrek, Rebekah Blommel, Nichole Wolz, Lydia Johnson, Kari Lentz, Jonathan Kibodeaux, Helene Todd, Emily Swanson, Elijah McClendon, Dylan Campbell Peterson, Diana Goodrich, David Danielson, Colleen Swan, Cecilia Riddle, Ashlee Purcella and Trudy Schoonover.

The pieces were installed by Sheridan College students Nichole Wrigley and Jonathan Kibodeaux.

The Edward A. Whitney Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.

The reception is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

DAYTON — A mother, daughter evening of sketching will take place Friday from 7-9 p.m. at 507 Bridge St. in Dayton.

The cost, which includes both mother and daughter, is $40 for Tongue River Valley Community Center members and $50 for nonmembers. The cost also includes some light snacks.

Sheridan County Youth Chorale to perform Wednesday @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Children’s and Youth Chorale will perform with the Sagebrush Folk Dancers on Wednesday at the WYO Theater.

The show, entitled “Turn the World Around,” will feature songs celebrating the sights and sounds from around the world. The dancers will offer traditional dances from around the world.

Tickets for the event are $5 for adults, seniors and students. Children age 12 and under get in for $3 apiece.

The WYO Theater is located at 42 N. Main St.

Foster Grandparents of the Rockies to host ice cream social @ YMCA

SHERIDAN — Foster Grandparents of the Rockies will host an ice cream social and informational session Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the YMCA.

The nonprofit goes into schools and helps students having academic, social or emotional difficulty. They work a minimum of 20 hours per week with no cost to the schools.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the program is encouraged to attend the informational session.

Expressions Art Gallery to host show by Charlie Walter @ Expressions Art Gallery and Framing, LLC,

SHERIDAN — Charles Walter will present his expressionistic works at Expressions Art Gallery and Framing, LLC, in a show called “Out of the Mind of Charlie Walter.”

The exhibit will open Thursday and be on display through May 30. An artist reception will take place May 26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the gallery. The reception will include wine and refreshments.

Admission to the exhibition is free and open to the public.

The exhibit will also feature work from Walter’s mentor, Alice Fuller.

The Brinton to host ‘Spring Roundup with the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association’ @ The Brinton Museum

BIG HORN — The Brinton Museum will present “Spring Roundup with the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association,” an international exhibition featuring 14 master artisans of the prestigious TCAA.

A nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the standard of time-honored craftsmanship in the cowboy arts, the TCAA promotes the disciplines of silversmithing, rawhide braiding, bit and spur making, and saddlemaking, and the roles they play in the culture of the North American West.

“There is a strong culture and tradition that formed us and we are proud of it…,” TCAA president Wilson Capron said. “The Brinton Museum is a perfect place to tell our story and to talk about the story of the West.”

The Brinton’s show includes exceptional pieces such as California Mission-style saddles with ornate, carved floral designs; decorative California-style spurs; sterling and gold metal work; ornate spade bits inlaid with fine silver; exquisite rawhide braided reins, and more.

“Spring Roundup with the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association” opens Friday and will continue in the third floor Jacomien Mars Reception Gallery through July 29.

The Brinton is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located at 239 Brinton Road in Big Horn.

Safe Kids Sheridan County, hospital to host Safe Kids Day @ SMH’s downtown offices

SHERIDAN — Sheridan Memorial Hospital and Safe Kids Sheridan County will celebrate Safe Kids Day Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Safe Kids Day celebrates kids and helps families take action to make every kid a safe kid. The day will include all kinds of activities and games with opportunities to win prizes. Sheridan Fire-Rescue will have a fire truck on site and other entities will have hands-on displays.

A variety of activities will also be set up to help families learn safety tips for bikes, water, pedestrians, car seats, medications and more.

The event will take place at SMH’s downtown offices, located at 61 S. Gould St.

Museum to host Tidbit Saturday @ The Sheridan County Museum

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Historical Society and Museum will host the next round of Tidbit Saturday events this weekend.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with programs for Armed Forces Day at the museum. Tidbit programs are for children ages 4-10 and combine hands-on activities with historical lessons. Guests for this weekend’s event include the Wyoming Army National Guard and Fort Phil Kearny State Historic Site.

The program is free, but sign-ups are requested by calling 675-1150.

The Sheridan County Museum is located at 850 Sibley Circle.
