Birding at the Brinton @ The Brinton Museum

SHERIDAN — The Brinton Museum, Science Kids and the Big Horn Audubon will present the next monthly “Birding at the Brinton” on Saturday.

This free morning of bird watching will run from 9-11 a.m at The Brinton Museum.

All ages and abilities are welcome to join.

Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars if they have them.

Run ‘Til You’re Green @ Kendrick Park

Pre-registration for the event ends March 13 and costs $25.

Day of registration begins at 9 a.m. and costs $30.

The run starts at 11 a.m. at Kendrick Park.

Lunch will be provided by Qdoba.

Live from The Met: Massenet’s ‘Werther’ @ WYO Theater

The WYO Theater will present “Live from The Met: Massenet’s ‘Werther’” on Saturday at 11 a.m. The performance is part of the series “The Metropolitan Opera: Live in High-Definition” which transmits opera performances to movie theaters and other venues around the world as part of The Metropolitan Opera’s efforts to reinvigorate opera and reach out to a broader public. The program allows audiences to experience the production at the same time as the audience in New York. “Werther” stars two of opera’s biggest artists, Jonas Kaufmann and Elina Garanca, appearing for the first time together at the Met. It is directed and designed by the team behind “Carmen,” Richard Eyre and Rob Howell. Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students. Tickets may be purchased online at www.wyotheater.com, on the phone at 672-9084 extension 100 or in person at the box office, which is located inside the theater at 42 N. Main St.

The Josties, a family from Southern Alberta, Canada, will perform three free concerts March 14, 15 and 16. Parents Dale and Lisa Jost along with their 11 children perform a mix of religious, acoustic country, folk and light contemporary music. The free concert is sponsored by the Pastors United in Christ but donations will be accepted. All members of the public are welcome to attend. The show March 14 commences at 6 p.m. at the Tongue River Valley Community Center. March 15 the show will be at the same location at 2 p.m. March 16 the Josties will perform at The Historic Sheridan Inn at 6 p.m. For more information call Sherm Weberg at 655-3036. The TRVCC is located at 1100 Highway 14, Dayton. The inn is located at 856 Broadway Street.

4-H Carnival @ Sheridan County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall

The Sheridan County 4-H club will host their annual carnival fundraiser on March 15. From 3-7 p.m. at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall a chili supper, cake walk, dunk tank, duck darts, treasure hunt, and more food and activities will be offered. There is no cost to attend and all optional activities carry individual costs which will benefit the 4-H club. For more information contact the Sheridan County Extension Office at 674-2980. Spring 2014 Home and Garden Show @ Holiday Inn

The Big Horn Home Builders Association’s Spring 2014 Home and Garden Show starts today at the Holiday Inn. There is no admission charge for the event which will offer a variety of interactive booths and give-aways for all members of the community. World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day parade @ Downtown Big Horn

Downtown Big Horn will host events St. Patrick’s Day weekend in support of Operation Homefront, benefitting soldiers and their families. On Saturday, Irish music performers Adam Agee and Jon Sousa will perform at the Big Horn Smokehouse and Saloon beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, the annual “World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day parade” will march through downtown Big Horn starting at around 3 p.m. Live music will continue Sunday and an Irish buffet including corned beef and cabbage will be served all day with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting the cause. The Smokehouse is located at 158 Johnson St.

Sheridan College will host guest presenter Ben Anderson on Monday. Anderson, the author of “Breaking through,” “IQ of 63, so what!” and “Last one picked, so what!,” will present “My disability…an incredible journey.” The discussion will include dialogue relating to disabilities such as discrimination, getting an education and misdiagnosis. The discussion will be held in the Presentation Hall of the Whitney Building from 6-7:30 p.m. Sheridan College is located at 3059 Coffeen Ave. and the hall is room W136. COPE @ Holiday Inn

Judy Olson, director of Counseling in Overcoming Painful Emotions, will start a nine-week program sponsored by Kane Funeral Home. COPE is an aftercare program designed to help deal with overcoming the loss of a loved one and gain support from others in the community experiencing the same type of grief. Free classes will be offered weekly on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. All members of the community are welcome to attend any or all sessions but reservations are requested. Roller Derby meet and greet @ Big Horn Mountain Eagles #4169

Sheridan’s first local roller derby league, the Bomber Mountain Derby Devils, is hosting a recruitment meet and greet event on Wednesday for the newly formed women’s team. Commencing at 6 p.m. at the Big Horn Mountain Eagles #4169 refreshments will be served and attendees will learn more about roller derby including participation requirements. The league, which is seeking non-profit status, hopes to offer men’s and youth teams in the future, offering new activities and family entertainment options as other area teams and their fans visit Sheridan for competitions. As part of the Sheridan College Science Museum Lecture Series, John Trumble will present “Cleanup and Remediation of Creosote Impacted Soils from a Railroad Tie Chipping Facility” on Wednesday. Trumble, the president of Cordilleran Environmental Consultants, Inc., will discuss the findings of a BNSF Railway Company sponsored research study conducted near Bovey, Minn. to investigate the use of phytoremediation to clean up an industrially-impacted soil containing polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons. Activities will also include tours of the facility, a staff meet-and-greet and the opportunity to learn more about the Highscope Curriculum taught at the school.

As part of the Faculty Lecture Series at Sheridan College, Chuck Holloway will present “What 15 years of rowing a boat has taught me about education” on Thursday.

Beginning at 7 p.m. in room 153 of the Whitney Building, Holloway, a horticulture and agriculture faculty member will share what he has learned from “42 years of standing in a river waving a stick.”

Holloway has spent the past 15 years guiding fly fishermen all over the country including the Bighorn River in Mont. and says the success o the day depends on the lessons his job has taught him.

The program is free and open to all. Refreshments will be served after the presentation.
