The Monster Who Ate My Peas @ WYO Theater

The WYO Theater will host “The Monster Who Ate My Peas” on Feb. 18.

Based on the multi-award winning book written by Danny Schnitzlein and illustrated by Matthew Faulkner, this musical play is part of the Children’s Educational and Family series.

Commencing at 6:30 p.m., the performance will tell the story of a young boy who doesn’t want to eat his peas so he makes a deal with a monster to give the creature anything he wants if he’ll eat the boy’s peas.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $8 for students and $5 for children ages 12 and under.

Tickets are available at the boxoffice located inside the theater at 42 N. Main St., online at wyotheater.com or by calling 672-9084.

How a Bronze Sculpture is Made @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

Lynn Gordon of Family and Personal Counseling Center will present topics on Wednesdays through the end of February including depression, fear, family and codependency and how to take control of these issues.

The seminars are free and open to everyone with no reservations required

“Family and codependency: We are from where we came” will be the topic on Wednesday from 12:10-12:50 p.m.

SHERIDAN — Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library will host two events this week to provide assistance with the Health Insurance Marketplace.

On Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. in The Inner Circle “Enroll Wyoming” will be offered.

A new Health Insurance Marketplace is now open in Wyo., where consumers can find a variety of health plans which all cover prescriptions, hospital stays, doctor visits and more.

Those interested may qualify for financial help to afford these plans.

Trained navigators are available to help consumers understand the insurance plans available and assist in the enrollment process on healthcare.gov.

Wednesday night’s program will be a presentation and Thursday will offer drop-in assistance hours.

Monitoring Greater Sage-Grouse in the Powder River Basin @ Mohns Science Center at Sheridan College

The Sheridan College Science Museum Lecture Series will present “Monitoring Greater Sage-Grouse in the Powder River Basin” on Wednesday. The free lecture will commence at 7 p.m. in the Mohns Science Center. The PRB is home to a population of greater sage-grouse on the eastern edge of its range. It is an isolated population, susceptible to local extinction which has also gone through extensive oil and gas development in the last decade, with potential impacts on sage-grouse and their habitat. Big Horn Environmental Consultants has spent several years monitoring the sage-grouse and will present preliminary results and interesting implications from the study. The lecture will be presented by BHEC consultants Tom Maechtle, Chris Kirol and Andy Sutphin. For more information call the college at 674-6446 extension 3500. The Wyoming Geriatric Education Center (WyGEC) will host an educational workshop on “End-of-Life Care” on Feb. 19 and 21.

The agenda will be the same for each day and the cost to attend either series is $50 for adults or $35 for students but the fee will be waived for Sheridan College nursing students.

The workshops will be presented at Sheridan College in the Whitney Presentation Hall from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The sessions will feature Education in Palliative and End-of-Life Care curriculum and breakfast, lunch and refreshments are included.

Speakers will include Brenda Mosher, Linda Stone-Soukup and Greg Marino.

Big Horn Woman’s Club meeting @ BHWC clubhouse

The Big Horn Woman’s Club will host a presentation and meeting on Friday. Kevin Knapp, who works at the Wyoming Room at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library and is the director of the Bozeman Trail Museum in Big Horn, will discuss the history of the coal mining towns near Sheridan. The presentation will commence at 1:30 p.m. at the BHWC clubhouse. The meeting is free to attend and open to all women. For more information contact club president Kathy Hosford at 674-7656. The Sheridan chapter of AARP will host a meeting Friday. The program will include a potluck, a summary of the Soup-er Bowl Food Drive, a proposal of a new summer outreach activity to be organized by the chapter and bingo. The event is free and open to everyone. Attendees are asked to bring their own place settings and a covered dish to share, and the chapter will provide fried chicken. Stars of Tomorrow @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The Kiwanis will host “Stars of Tomorrow” Feb. 21.

This youth talent show will present children in three categories: elementary, junior high and high school.

First-, second- and third-place winners in each category will receive a trophy and a certificate.

There will also be an overall winner who will receive a scholarship toward the college of their choice and is given the opportunity to compete at the district level.

The show will commence at 7 p.m. at the WYO Theater located at 42 N. Main St.

Tickets for the performance are $8 for adults, $5 for students under age 18 and free for children five years old and younger.

SHERIDAN — Santosha Yoga is offering a free day of yoga and meditation on Feb. 22. A variety of classes will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and all are welcome to join for one class or the whole day. From 8:30-9:30 a.m. all members of the family are invited to Family Yoga Time. From 9:45-10:30 a.m. beginners level Vinyasa, flow yoga, will be offered. From 10:45-11:45 a.m. advanced level Vinyasa will be presented. From 1-1:45 p.m. Power Yoga Express will be offered. From 2-2:45 p.m. chair and restorative Yoga for Every Body will be presented. Healthy snacks, drawing and tours will be offered during each 15 minute break between classes. Participants are welcome to bring lunch and enjoy meditation or go out for lunch during the 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. break. Attendees are welcome to make a donation and vote for their favorite non-profit and the winning non-profit will receive all donations. Prizes will also be drawn during the event. The Sheridan County Museum will present “Behind the Scenes Saturday” on Saturday. This free event is open to all with no reservations required. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a behind-the-scenes view at the museum’s operations. The public is invited to come and see what goes on at the museum when the galleries are closed. Attendees will see how employees take down old exhibits, care for the items entrusted to the museum and prepare new items and galleries for new exhibits. There will also be Tidbit activities for children and parents. The museum is located at 850 Sibley Circle, off of the Fifth Street exit of Interstate 90. For more information call 675-1150.

The Little Bighorn Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host a free fly tying class Saturday. From 1-3 p.m. all members of the community are welcome to join a group of local professional tiers to learn basic skills for new tiers. Attendees are encouraged to bring tools and a vice if they have them, however, 10 vices will be available for those who need it. Uncapped @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host a special class “Uncapped” on Feb. 22.

This painting workshop is tailored to adults and children and will be taught by Tongue River High School art student Hannah Johnston.

Johnston will guide the class in a 20X16 painting with local artist Sonja Caywood serving as her assistant. The class will run from 2-4 p.m. at the art center.

The cost to attend is $35 per adult and $25 per child with an adult, with all supplies included.

Johnston is raising money to go to Europe and all proceeds will go toward that cause.

Attendees are invited to bring non-alcoholic beverages.

Pheasants Forever Banquet and Auction @ Sheridan County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall

SHERIDAN — The annual Pheasants Forever Banquet and Auction will be held Feb. 22.

The fundraising buffet banquet benefits the Sheridan/Johnson County chapter of Pheasants Forever and will be held at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall from 5:30-10 p.m.

Tickets are $60 each or $90 per couple and purchases include a membership in the organization.

Raffle tickets for a Can-Am 500 four-wheeler and a raffle for 10 special guns will be sold separately for $20 each.

Raffle tickets and banquet tickets are available now at Parker Glass, located at 125 W. Brundage St., and Sheridan Stationery located at 206 N. Main St.
