Moments of Seeing: The Art of Teresa Jordan and Chessney Sevier @ Ucross Foundation Art Gallery

SHERIDAN — A new exhibit is opening at the Ucross Foundation Art Gallery on Feb. 15 and an artist’s reception will be held.
“Moments of Seeing: The Art of Teresa Jordan and Chessney Sevier” will feature monotypes and hand-colored monotypes by Jordan and paintings and intaglio etchings by Sevier.
The reception will run from 3-5 p.m. and will include a special performance in the Barn Loft at 4 p.m. featuring music and stories by Jordan and her husband, Hal Cannon, the executive director of the Western Folklife Center and National Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nev.
The event is free and open to the public.
The exhibit will be on display through May 9.
The gallery is located at 30 Big Red Lane, Ucross.

Seventh annual Fireman’s Ball @ Historic Sheridan Inn

The seventh annual Fireman’s Ball will be held Feb. 15 at the Historic Sheridan Inn.

From 7-11 p.m. entertainment will be provided by the Teka Brock Band, appetizers will be served, a silent auction will be offered and a wine ladder and Harley will be raffled off.

A cash bar will be available.

For the Harley raffle, 250 raffle tickets will be sold prior to the ball for $100 each. Each purchase includes two free tickets to the event. The grand prize will be a “Firefighter Edition” Harley Davidson. Runner-up cash prizes will also be granted.

Professional photos of attendees in fire fighter outfits will be taken by FFF Photography and available for purchase.

Proceeds from the Harley raffle will benefit a scholarship for an area student. Proceeds from the event and photos will go toward the installation of a firefighters statue in front of the station.

Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at the station, Red Velvet Bakery, Sheridan Stationary and Twisted Hearts.

The Monster Who Ate My Peas @ WYO Theater

The WYO Theater will host “The Monster Who Ate My Peas” on Feb. 18.

Based on the multi-award winning book written by Danny Schnitzlein and illustrated by Matthew Faulkner, this musical play is part of the Children’s Educational and Family series.

Commencing at 6:30 p.m., the performance will tell the story of a young boy who doesn’t want to eat his peas so he makes a deal with a monster to give the creature anything he wants if he’ll eat the boy’s peas.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $8 for students and $5 for children ages 12 and under.

SHERIDAN — Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library will host two events this week to provide assistance with the Health Insurance Marketplace.

On Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. in The Inner Circle “Enroll Wyoming” will be offered.

A new Health Insurance Marketplace is now open in Wyo., where consumers can find a variety of health plans which all cover prescriptions, hospital stays, doctor visits and more.

Those interested may qualify for financial help to afford these plans.

Trained navigators are available to help consumers understand the insurance plans available and assist in the enrollment process on healthcare.gov.

Wednesday night’s program will be a presentation and Thursday will offer drop-in assistance hours.

Monitoring Greater Sage-Grouse in the Powder River Basin @ Mohns Science Center at Sheridan College

The Sheridan College Science Museum Lecture Series will present “Monitoring Greater Sage-Grouse in the Powder River Basin” on Wednesday. The free lecture will commence at 7 p.m. in the Mohns Science Center. The PRB is home to a population of greater sage-grouse on the eastern edge of its range. It is an isolated population, susceptible to local extinction which has also gone through extensive oil and gas development in the last decade, with potential impacts on sage-grouse and their habitat. Big Horn Environmental Consultants has spent several years monitoring the sage-grouse and will present preliminary results and interesting implications from the study. The lecture will be presented by BHEC consultants Tom Maechtle, Chris Kirol and Andy Sutphin. For more information call the college at 674-6446 extension 3500. The workshops will be presented at Sheridan College in the Whitney Presentation Hall from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The sessions will feature Education in Palliative and End-of-Life Care curriculum and breakfast, lunch and refreshments are included.

Speakers will include Brenda Mosher, Linda Stone-Soukup and Greg Marino.

This youth talent show will present children in three categories: elementary, junior high and high school.

First-, second- and third-place winners in each category will receive a trophy and a certificate.

There will also be an overall winner who will receive a scholarship toward the college of their choice and is given the opportunity to compete at the district level.

The show will commence at 7 p.m. at the WYO Theater located at 42 N. Main St.

Tickets for the performance are $8 for adults, $5 for students under age 18 and free for children five years old and younger.

The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a behind-the-scenes view at the museum’s operations. The public is invited to come and see what goes on at the museum when the galleries are closed. Attendees will see how employees take down old exhibits, care for the items entrusted to the museum and prepare new items and galleries for new exhibits.
