Free zumba open house @ Zumba Fitness

Zumba Fitness will host an open house with free zumba on Saturday. The open house is a celebration of their first year in the new location and their expansion in to nutritional support and health coaching. The occasion will be marked with a ribbon cutting, snacks, refreshments and a free Zumba class. The free event will commence at 10 a.m. and all are welcome to attend. Free fly tying class @ Downtown Association Community Room

The Little Bighorn Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host a free fly tying class Saturday. From 1-3 p.m. all members of the community are welcome to join a group of local professional tiers to learn basic skills for new tiers. Attendees are encouraged to bring tools and a vice if they have them, however, 10 vices will be available for those who need it. Uncapped @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host a special class “Uncapped” on Feb. 22.

This painting workshop is tailored to adults and children and will be taught by Tongue River High School art student Hannah Johnston.

Johnston will guide the class in a 20X16 painting with local artist Sonja Caywood serving as her assistant. The class will run from 2-4 p.m. at the art center.

The cost to attend is $35 per adult and $25 per child with an adult, with all supplies included.

Johnston is raising money to go to Europe and all proceeds will go toward that cause.

Attendees are invited to bring non-alcoholic beverages.

Pre-registration is requested. To register call 674-1970.

Pheasants Forever Banquet and Auction @ Sheridan County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall

SHERIDAN — The annual Pheasants Forever Banquet and Auction will be held Feb. 22.

The fundraising buffet banquet benefits the Sheridan/Johnson County chapter of Pheasants Forever and will be held at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall from 5:30-10 p.m.

Tickets are $60 each or $90 per couple and purchases include a membership in the organization.

Raffle tickets for a Can-Am 500 four-wheeler and a raffle for 10 special guns will be sold separately for $20 each.

Raffle tickets and banquet tickets are available now at Parker Glass, located at 125 W. Brundage St., and Sheridan Stationery located at 206 N. Main St.

“Back to the Drawing Board” artist’s reception @ Martinsen Gallery at Sheridan College

A new art exhibit, “Back to the Drawing Board” by Christie American Horse, will open at the Martinsen Gallery on Tuesday, commencing with an artist’s reception. On Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. the public is invited to the free reception at Sheridan College. American Horse, who was born cross-eyed but overcame the condition, has worked in many mediums including oils, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, charcoal and graphite. The exhibit will focus on her drawings, which she states is her favorite part of the painting process. She is the daughter of fellow local artist Fred Goehring and a graduate of Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho. The exhibit will run through April 8. The gallery is located in the Whitney building of SC located at 3059 Coffeen Ave.

The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host another “Uncorked” workshop on Tuesday. “Sunshine Poppies” will offer music, fun and step-by-step guidance from local artist Sonja Caywood on painting your own 20X16 acrylic sunshine poppy painting. Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus

The Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus invites all community members to attend “Leap in to Leadership 2014” on Feb. 27 and 28 in Cheyenne. The caucus will feature national experts on women in politics, campaign planning and board governance workshops and a roundtable discussion of women in Wyoming politics. A dinner will be held on Feb. 27 featuring Kellyanne Conway and Celinda Lake discussing how a united women’s power base is changing the state of our nation more than two-sided politics. Registration before Feb. 10 for the two day event is $60 and for the dinner is $25. Registration after Feb. 10 for the event is $75 and for the dinner is $30. Free viewing of “The Invisible War” @ Sheridan College Whitney presentation hall

A free viewing of “The Invisible War,” an Oscar nominated and Sundance Film Festival winning documentary, will be presented Wednesday. The show will commence at 6:30 p.m. at the Sheridan College Whitney presentation hall. A speech and discussion of the film will be led by Tammy Wonder. Everyone is welcome and the film is not rated but viewers are advised there will be strong content as the film investigates the epidemic of rape of soldiers within the US military. The college is located at 3059 Coffeen Ave.

The Wyoming Artist Blacksmith Winter Forge-In will be held Feb. 28 through March 2.

Activities on Feb. 28  and March 1 will include a demonstration and lecture by Mark Constable from 9 a.m. to noon and again from 1-5 p.m. The itenarary for March 1 also includes the WAB nnual business meeting from 5-5:30 p.m. The weekend will conclude March 2 following the 9 a.m. to noon lecture.

Breakfast, lunch and dinners will be served daily and donations to cover the cost of food will be accepted at each individual meal as the cost of food is not included in the registration fee.

All participants will be required to wear eye protection at all times.

Attendees are asked to wear fire resistant clothing such as wool or cotton and not fleece or nylon.

Everyone attending blacksmithing classes, conferences, demonstration or entering a shop for any reason will be asked to sign a waver.

The cost to attend is $40 per person until Feb. 15 and $50 per person for persons registering after Feb. 15 or at the door.

SCLT open house @ Historic Sheridan Inn

The Sheridan Community Land Trust will host their 2014 annual open house on Feb. 27.

From 5-8 p.m. at the Historic Sheridan Inn, Polish appetizers and music will be offered in honor of the completion of the Black Diamond Historic Byway.

Mike Kuzara, a one-man polka band, will perform and attendees will have the opportunity to listen to the Byway audio tour.

The 2013 annual report and 2014 upcoming projects will also be presented.

Raffles winners will also be drawn.

From 5:30-8 p.m. Sheridan Foster Parents Exchange will be honored with the fundraiser.

Admission is free, a silent and live auction will be held, live music will be played by Terry Garrison and all proceeds will benefit the organization.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $25 and will offer 10 percent off purchases made throughout the evening, a $250 cash give-away, door prizes and other surprises.

The Wyoming Water Color Association will present “Pub Painting” an Artists in Motion fundraiser. On Friday at 5 p.m. the artists of the association will paint and sell their works inside the corner pub at Fifth Street and Main Street. There is no cost to attend but attendees must be age 21 or older to enter the pub. The WWCA offers classes to educate people on the art and Artists in Motion is a grassroots movement to bring art to the masses. Attendees’ participation is welcome. Beginning at 10 a.m. Wayne Gray will present “Stop and smell the roses” an informative and fast-paced session that will cover the different types of roses, rose planting and care and rose pests and diseases and how to control them.

The second workshop will be presented by Landon’s manager Keith Kershaw at 1 p.m. Kershaw will present “Backyard orchard: All about fruit trees,” an informative workshop discussing how to grow fruit trees in Wyoming.

All workshops are free but space is limited so pre-registration is requested.

Live from The Met: Borodin’s ‘Prince Igor’ @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will present “Live from The Met: Borodin’s ‘Prince Igor’” on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The performance is part of the series “The Metropolitan Opera: Live in High-Definition” which transmits opera performances to movie theaters and other venues around the world as part of The Metropolitan Opera’s efforts to reinvigorate opera and reach out to a broader public.

The program allows audiences to experience the production at the same time as the audience in New York.

“Prince Igor” is a Russian epic famous for its Polovtsian dances and hasn’t been to the Met in nearly 100 years. Star bass-baritone Ildar Abdrazakov takes on the title role with Gianandrea Noseda conducting.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students. Tickets may be purchased online at www.wyotheater.com, on the phone at 672-9084 extension 100 or in person at the box office, which is located inside the theater at 42 N. Main St.

Water may seem ordinary but it is a building block of life and the program will discuss why.

Sheridan College Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble concerts @ Big Horn High School auditorium

The Sheridan College Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble will perform their third of four concerts this year on Sunday. Directed by Dr. Michal P. Flynn, the theme of the concert will be “Music from the James Bond franchise.” The concerts will be held at the Big Horn High School auditorium. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend. Dr. Flynn will be discussing the works to be presented prior to the performance. The discussion will commence at 6 p.m. and the concert at 7 p.m. Clips from the James Bond films will play while the wind ensemble performs and guest artists Tawni Shuler and Hannah Gilbert will create live art during the performance of “Le Champ de Bataille,” a piece written by Sheridan College faculty member Dr. Chris Erickson.
