Wyoming Archaeological Society meeting @ Le Gourmet Room at the Sheridan Holiday Inn

The Sheridan-Johnson County chapter of the Wyoming Archaeological Society will meet Thursday.

Commencing at 6 p.m. in the Le Gourmet Room at the Sheridan Holiday Inn, the meeting is free and open to everyone.

Dinner can be order from the menu but is not required to attend.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. Forest Service Archaeologist Pat Bower will give a presentation regarding his archaeological work on Easter Island.

Reservations are not required to attend.

The Legacy of the First World War: The View From One Century Later @ Whitney Presentation Hall Sheridan College

Sheridan College will present “The Legacy of the First World War: The View From One Century Later” on Feb. 6. Mike Walker will present a brief overview of World War I, the magnitude of the slaughter that attended the war and the consequences of it. The free presentation will commence at 7 p.m. in the Whitney Presentation Hall. A more in depth look at the First World War will be offered in a seminar class beginning Jan. 22. HIST2490 01, First World War, will be taught by Walker on Wed. evenings from 6-8 p.m. Registration is now open at www.sheridan.edu. “Follow the Legislature” @ Fulmer Public Library

The Sheridan County Democrats are sponsoring a program on Thursday at the Fulmer Public Library. “Follow the Legislature” is a non-partisan, free event which is open to everyone.

The program will explain how to navigate the Wyoming Legislature’s website, with focus on bill tracking and advocacy.

There will also be discussions on a bill concerning Medicaid expansion, how to contact your legislatures and a few new skills that will keep you up-to-date on bills in Wyoming.

The program will run from 7:15-8:30 p.m. For more information call SCD President Hollis Hackman at 672-7585.

Get Acquainted Tea @ Inner Circle in Sheridan Fulmer Public Library

The Friendship Club of Sheridan (formerly the Sheridan Newcomers Club) will host a Get Acquainted Tea on Feb. 7.

From 10 a.m. to noon at the Inner Circle in Sheridan Fulmer Public Library women of all ages are welcome to enjoy punch or tea and cookies.

The tea is a chance to get to know the group, which meets for lunch the fourth Thursday of every month and offers subgroups including a book club, a Bunco group, a Pinochle group and the potential for future additions like a walking group.

Saturday University: The Free One-Day College Education @ Sheridan College

Sheridan College will present “Saturday University: The Free One-Day College Education” on Feb. 8.

Members of the community are invited to go back to college for a day — minus the tests and late-night study sessions — as three professors from the University of Wyoming present lectures from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The day begins with free coffee and pastries followed by opening remarks.

The first session, “The thinking animal: A look back at comparative psychology in the 21st century,” will begin at 9 a.m.

The second lecture, “Making it home: Landscape photographs in the 19th-century West,” will begin at 10:15 a.m.

The final class, “Biodiversity inside and out: A look at life’s richness from Wyoming’s perspective,” will begin at 11:30 a.m.

The day will conclude with a lunch and conversation with the professors.

All activities are free and no pre-registration is required.

Saturday University is a collaborative program connecting popular UW professors with Wyoming residents sponsored by UW, the UW Foundation and the Wyoming Humanities Council.

Live from The Met: Dvorak’s ‘Rusalka’ @ WYO Theater

The WYO Theater will present “Live from The Met: Dvorak’s ‘Rusalka’” on Feb. 8 at 11 a.m.

The performance is part of the series “The Metropolitan Opera: Live in High-Definition” which transmits opera performances to movie theaters and other venues around the world as part of The Metropolitan Opera’s efforts to reinvigorate opera and reach out to a broader public.

The program allows audiences to experience the production at the same time as the audience in New York.

“Rusalka” stars Renee Fleming in one of her signature roles alongside Piotr Beczala, Dolora Zajick and maestro Yannick Nezet-Seguin. Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students. Tickets may be purchased online at www.wyotheater.com, on the phone at 672-9084 extension 100 or in person at the box office, which is located inside the theater at 42 N. Main St.

Brent Spink artist’s reception @ Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

Local artist Brent Spink will present his art throughout February at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library beginning with an artist’s reception on Saturday.

The reception will be in The Inner Circle from 1-3 p.m.

Spink is originally from Missoula, Mont. and his primary medium is oil paintings.

He currently lives and works just north of Sheridan in the Wolf Teeth Mountains.

Ducks Unlimited 30th annual membership banquet, dinner and auction @ Bozeman Trail steakhouse

The Buffalo Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold their 30th annual membership banquet, dinner and auction on Feb. 8.

DU works to meet the needs of waterfowl in Wyoming by creating and enhancing wetlands and associated upland habitats.

The evening will include dinner, raffles and an auction.

Auction items available will be wildlife art, firearms, sculptures, antique wood decoy, gift certificates, dinner and lodging packages, a battlefield tour, fishing and hunting trips, golf packages and more.

Tickets are $35 per person if purchased by Feb. 1 and $45 per person or $80 per couple after Feb. 1.

Tickets are available at The Sports Lure, the Bank of Buffalo or by calling Dean Knauer at 684-5621.

The evening commences at 5:30 p.m. at the Bozeman Trail steakhouse and seating is limited. The steakhouse is located at 675 E. Hart St., Buffalo.

The fourth annual Sheridan College Rodeo Banquet will be held Feb. 8.

The event is a fundraiser benefitting scholarships and operating costs for the men’s and women’s student-athlete rodeo teams.

The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

Silent and live auctions will be held and live entertainment will be provided by Justin Beasley and After the Rodeo.

Tickets are $50 per person and must be purchased in advance.

Tickets are available at the SC information desk, the SC Foundation or through the rodeo teams.
