Kalif Shriners Carnival set for weekend @ Trails End Concert Park
May 5 @ 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm

SHERIDAN — The Kalif Shriners’ Carnival will take place Thursday through Sunday at the Trails End Concert Park.

The event will include a full-blown carnival with rides, games, prizes and food.

Dreamland Carnival Company of Bridger, Montana, will bring the even to town to help kick start the summer.

Reduced price pre-sale all-day armbands will be available at the Kalif Temple or Trails End Motel front desk until Wednesday. Pre-sale armbands cost $20 and are good for the entire day for all rides.

Regular priced armbands will be available during the event and will cost $25 apiece.

The carnival will take place from 3 p.m. to at least 10 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to at least 10 p.m. Saturday and will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, with the closing time to be determined.

The Trails End Concert Park is located at 2125 N. Main St.

Mother, daughter sketch planned @ 507 Bridge St. in Dayton, WY

DAYTON — A mother, daughter evening of sketching will take place Friday from 7-9 p.m. at 507 Bridge St. in Dayton.

The cost, which includes both mother and daughter, is $40 for Tongue River Valley Community Center members and $50 for nonmembers. The cost also includes some light snacks.

Shop local contest starts Saturday @ Sheridan, WY
May 6 all-day

SHERIDAN — The Downtown Sheridan Association will kick off a shop local contest Saturday.

To compete, shoppers can pick up their aMAYzing Places Passport at participating downtown businesses beginning Saturday. To win, shoppers can fill their passports by visiting all participating businesses for a unique stamp. Once the passport is filled, it can be turned into the DSA or Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce office.

Three winners will be chosen from the ones that are turned in. Each participating business will provide an in-store gift card of at least $10 for the prize package.

The contest will run through May 31.

UMC to host parking lot sale @ United Methodist Church

SHERIDAN — The United Methodist Church will host a men’s parking lot sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Community members can rent one table for $10 or two for $15 to sell personal items.

If the event is rained out, it will take place May 20.

The hands-on painting class will help attendees improve their skills, discover new techniques and learn to paint directly from observation.

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Historical Society and Museum will host its annual gala fundraiser, “A View From the Governor’s Mansion,” on Saturday at the Sheridan Holiday Inn.

The program for the evening will feature three former Wyoming governors — Michael Sullivan, James Geringer and David Freudenthal.

The trio will share a little history and their perspective as Wyoming’s chief executive.

Tickets for the gala are $75 per person and are on sale through the WYO Theater box office and the Sheridan County Historical Society and Museum mercantile gift shop.

The gala will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cash bar and silent auction. Dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m.

After dinner will be the program by the former governors. All of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Sheridan County Historical Society and Museum.

The bands are under the direction of Ashley Lecholat and Diane Knutson and will be accompanied by Lisa Robertson.

The show will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The performance is a fundraiser for the bands and the cost to attend is $10 per person.

SHERIDAN — Charles Walter will present his expressionistic works at Expressions Art Gallery and Framing, LLC, in a show called “Out of the Mind of Charlie Walter.”

The exhibit will open Thursday and be on display through May 30. An artist reception will take place May 26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the gallery. The reception will include wine and refreshments.

Admission to the exhibition is free and open to the public.

The Brinton to host ‘Spring Roundup with the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association’ @ The Brinton Museum

BIG HORN — The Brinton Museum will present “Spring Roundup with the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association,” an international exhibition featuring 14 master artisans of the prestigious TCAA.

A nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the standard of time-honored craftsmanship in the cowboy arts, the TCAA promotes the disciplines of silversmithing, rawhide braiding, bit and spur making, and saddlemaking, and the roles they play in the culture of the North American West.

“There is a strong culture and tradition that formed us and we are proud of it…,” TCAA president Wilson Capron said. “The Brinton Museum is a perfect place to tell our story and to talk about the story of the West.”

The Brinton’s show includes exceptional pieces such as California Mission-style saddles with ornate, carved floral designs; decorative California-style spurs; sterling and gold metal work; ornate spade bits inlaid with fine silver; exquisite rawhide braided reins, and more.

“Spring Roundup with the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association” opens Friday and will continue in the third floor Jacomien Mars Reception Gallery through July 29.

The Brinton is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located at 239 Brinton Road in Big Horn.

Trout Unlimited plans inaugural Spring Runoff, Mayfly Festival @ Kendrick Park.

SHERIDAN — On Saturday, Little Big Horn Trout Unlimited will host its first-ever Spring Runoff Half Marathon and 5k race alongside the Mayfly Festival in Kendrick Park.

“Everyone is invited to this family-friendly event,” LBHTU President Nick Haderlie said in a press release. “There will be activities for kids, runners, live music from the Craft Brothers and more.”

The Spring Runoff half marathon and 5k will be fully supported and timed running events, beginning and ending at the Kendrick Park bandshell. Same-day registration starts at 8 a.m. The half marathon will begin at 9 a.m. and the 5k run/walk will begin at 10 a.m. The event will also include a family-friendly walk/run around the loops in Kendrick Park beginning immediately after the 5k at 10 a.m.

In addition to the Spring Runoff races, the local Trout Unlimited chapter has planned a free Mayfly Festival in the park. The Mayfly Festival will include music, food, local brews, bouncy house and games for kids.

Little Big Horn Trout Unlimited will teach fly tying and casting, and several other local organizations will have booths, tables or tents with various activities. Smokey Bear and his friends from the U.S. Forest Service are expected to make an appearance, and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be on hand with educational activities for kids.

American Legion Auxiliary to conduct Buddy Poppy drive @ Kmart and Walmart

SHERIDAN — Members of the American Legion Auxiliary will conduct a Buddy Poppy drive Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The members will be at Kmart and Walmart during those times.

Proceeds from the drive support veterans.

Buddy Poppies are made by veterans, used as therapy and a fundraiser with the motto “Honor the dead by helping the living,” in mind.

Our Camp organizing bowl-a-thon @ Cloud Peak Lanes

SHERIDAN — Our Camp, Inc., a summer camp for individuals with disabilities will hold its inaugural bowl-a-thon Saturday. Two bowling times are available: 11 a.m. to noon or noon to 1 p.m.

The event will be held at Cloud Peak Lanes in Sheridan. Participants can participate as individuals or teams of 2-5 bowlers and are being asked to secure donations for their participation.

All proceeds benefit Our Camp, Inc., a volunteer-run nonprofit summer camp serving individuals of all ages with disabilities. Founded in 1992 by the “Baker Sisters” of Sheridan, Our Camp has provided thousands of campers and volunteers the opportunity to build friendships and make memories through the camping experience. Camps occur each year in Story and Glendo, and serve campers from around the region.

Bowl-a-thon proceeds will fund scholarships for campers who may not otherwise be able to attend due to financial limitations.
