Ucross opens new exhibit @ Ucross Foundation Art Gallery

UCROSS — The Ucross Foundation has opened a new show in its art gallery, “Views from Oregon: Sixteen artists.”

The show opened Feb. 6 and will run through May 12. A reception will take place April 22 from 4-6 p.m.

All 16 artists participating in the show are from Oregon and were artists in residence at Ucross between 2013-2016.

The Ucross Foundation Art Gallery is located at 30 Big Red Lane in Ucross.

Brinton to open two exhibits next week @ Brinton Museum

BIG HORN — The Brinton Museum will open two new shows next week.

The 12th Illustrator Show — The Art of John Potter will be on display in the Mars Reception Gallery.

In the S.K. Johnston Jr. Family Gallery, an exhibit entitled “Gollings & Kleiber: In the Classroom” will be on display.

Both exhibits will be on display from March 15 through April 30.

In addition to the show openings, Ken Schuster will present a gallery talk on the  “Gollings & Kleiber: In the Classroom” exhibit April 27 at 7 p.m.

The Brinton Museum is located at 239 Brinton Road in Big Horn.

WWA’s Miniature Art Auction begins Monday @ Expressions Art Gallery & Framing, LLC

SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Wilderness Association invites members of the public to its 11th annual Miniature Art Auction: Celebrating our Wild Earth.

Miniature artworks donated by talented, local artists will be open for viewing and bidding April 17–28 at Expressions Art Gallery & Framing, LLC, located at 645 Broadway St.

The Grand Finale Gala will be held April 28 at Expressions Gallery from 5-7 p.m. The gala will feature final bidding wars, prizes awarded by a panel of prestigious jurors, live music, food and beverages.

Prizes from local businesses will be awarded to artists in seven categories: Best Flat Art, Best Sculpture, Best in Open Category, Best Use of Natural Materials, Best Use of Recycled Materials, People’s Choice and Best in Show. The event is free and open to the public.

Proceeds from the auction support Wyoming Wilderness Association’s priority campaigns in the Red Desert, Bridger-Teton, Shoshone and Bighorn National Forests, as well as their work actively opposing the public lands transfer movement.

Join community in ‘Celebrate the Arts’

SHERIDAN — SAGE Community Arts, Sheridan Public Arts Committee, Frackelton’s and the WYO Theater have combined efforts to create a daylong celebration of the arts and artists.

The activities for the day include Dining For A Cause at Frackelton’s, the dedication of a new statue on the corner of Main and Brundage streets, an art opening of a show curated by Arin Waddell at SAGE and Spencer Bohren in concert at the WYO Theater.

Here’s a rundown of the day’s events:

• All day — Dining For A Cause at Frackelton’s to benefit the Sheridan Public Arts Committee, WYO Theater and SAGE Community Arts. One hundred percent of sales from the day will be donated to the organizations.

• 4-6 p.m. — Artist and community opening of “The Long Line: Student to Masters in Drawing,” curated by Arin Waddell at SAGE Community Arts, 21 West Brundage St.

• 5 p.m. — Unveiling of Allan Houser’s “Interconnection,” a permanent addition to the downtown public sculptures. Also, an introduction of 2017 on-loan sculptures will be given at the corner of Main and Brundage streets.

• 7:30 p.m. — Spencer Bohren concert at the WYO Theater, 42 N. Main St. Tickets are $18 apiece and available at wyotheater.com or by calling 672-9084.

Katie Curtiss will lead discussions at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library and Norleen Healy will lead at Story and Tongue River branches.

Story Branch Library and Tongue River Branch Library will start their discussions in January and Sheridan Fulmer will start its discussions in February. Books are available now at the front desk of each library.

Participants can attend any or all sessions and can also attend sessions at different libraries if they choose. There is no charge for these programs and new participants are welcome.

The Claire Yorks Reading and Discussion series is funded by an endowment established at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library. Yorks was born in Sheridan to Leroy and Mildred Calkins.

She graduated from high school in Sheridan and moved to Seattle to work in the aircraft industry in World War II. There she met and married her husband, Samuel Yorks.

She finished college and became a social worker in Portland.

When she retired in 1982, the Yorks moved to Sheridan where they were involved community volunteers. Sam Yorks was the first moderator of adult reading and discussion groups at the Fulmer Library in Sheridan.

The event is meant to provide a way to network and discuss important issues with the communities in Sheridan County.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Clearmont town offices, located at 1605 Pennsylvania Ave.
