Classical Concert Series @ First Baptist Church

SHERIDAN— The Sheridan Arts Council presents their first concert of their “Classical Concert Series”. The Werner Chamber Quartet will play at First Baptist Church Friday, August 22 at 7 p.m. The church is located at 3179 Big Horn Ave. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for senior and military, and $5 for students. Big Sky Dowser’s Convention @ Moose Lodge

BILLINGS— The Big Sky Dowser will meet at its 37th annual convention from Aug. 23-24 at the Moose Lodge in Billings, Mont.

Dowsing is a type of divination employed in attempts to locate ground water, buried metals or ores, gemstones, oil and many other objects and materials without the use of scientific apparatus.

Come to the convention and learn about dowsing and see it demonstrated and learn the technique. The special presenter will be Big Sky Dowser Charter Member Vern Bandy who will demonstrate dowsing rods he personally designed.

Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter renovations @ Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter

SHERIDAN— Pedigree and GreaterGood have teamed up to give selected shelters across the nation a makeover.

The Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter has been selected to receive renovation, and needs volunteers to help finish the project.

The renovations will begin Aug. 23 and 24 at 9 a.m.

Sheridan Community Blood Drive @ Best Western Sheridan Center

SHERIDAN— The Sheridan Community Blood Drive will be on Monday from Noon – 6 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The blood drive will take place in the ballroom at the Best Western Sheridan Center, 612 Main St. There is an emergency need for the O negative and O positive blood types.

Appointments are strongly recommended, but are not necessary. To schedule, go to www.bloodhero.com, sponsor code: sheridan, or call United Blood Services at 1-800-365-4450.

All blood types are needed except for the AB blood types.

Math boot camp @ Room 203 Whitney Building Sheridan College

SHERIDAN— The Sheridan College math department will host its annual math “Boot Camp” workshop on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This workshop will be in room 203 in the Whitney Building and is free and open to Sheridan College students.

Additionally, Sheridan College offers academic support in the Tutoring Center and Math Center.

Final WWA hike up Bonneville Pass

SHERIDAN — For the next event in a series of outings celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, the Wyoming Wilderness Association will host a picnic on the top of Bonneville Pass overlooking the DuNoir Recommended Wilderness area.

On Saturday, hikers will enjoy their lunch while overlooking volcanic cliffs and scenic meadow.s

Bring a picnic lunch and plan to spend time discussing the anniversary of wilderness areas. The hike will be approximately six miles roundtrip. For more information or to register call the WWA at 672-2751 or email carolyn@wildwyo.org.

Blacktooth Brewing non-profit night @ Blacktooth Brewing

SHERIDAN— Blacktooth Brewing will host a non-profit event on Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. For every pint sold, one dollar is donated to the Matthew Perkins Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Matthew Perkins Memorial Scholarship Fund is money that helps to subsidize educational travel opportunities for Sheridan High School and Fort McKenzie High School students. 50/50 tickets will be sold and Thrivent Builds will provide free hotdogs. Backcountry Horsemen Meeting

SHERIDAN— The Cloud Peak chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Dwight French. A steak fry and potluck will be served. Jim Pratt, the treasurer for the State Backcountry board will be there to answer questions. To be included in the head count or for directions contact Dwight French at 674-8239.

Professional Polo Announcer Gus Whitelaw will be at Brinton Barn @ Brinton Barn

BIG HORN— Professional polo announcer and young horse trainer Gus Whitelaw will be at the Brinton Barn in Big Horn Wednesday.

At 10 a.m. Whitelaw will give a horse demonstration and talk about training a young horse, getting a polo horse used to “traffic,” the polo ball, field work and other horse-related topics.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information call 672-3173. The barn is located at #241, to the west of the Brinton Museum Entrance, 239 Brinton Road in Big Horn.

Parkfit will feature circuits by A.J. Sare @ Thorne-Rider Park

SHERIDAN — EMIT Technologies, the Recreation District and the Wellness Council have partnered to present ParkFit 2014.

Every Wednesday throughout the summer from 12:10-12:50 p.m. a free fitness class will be offered at one of the local parks.

The next session will be circuit by the A.J. Sare at Thorne-Rider Park.
