Harold Johnson Cancer Benefit @ Elks Lodge

SHERIDAN— The Elks Lodge will hold a fundraiser for Harold Johnson to help raise money for his cancer challenge. From 4-6p.m. on Saturday there will be a dinner, live music, and an auction. The cost is $10 and the lodge is located at 45 W. Brundage St. If you can’t make it, you can send donations to the Harold Johnson Fund, PO box 5082, Sheridan, WY 82801. Jentel Presents @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN— Jentel Artist Residency Program is pleased to present this month’s residents. “Jentel Presents” will take place Tuesday, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Sagebrush Community Art Center. This month’s presenters include an encaustic artist, a performance artist, a narrative fiction writer, a painter, a photographer and a fiction writer. The art center is located on the corner of Fifth and Broadway, and this event is free and open to the public.

SHERIDAN— The Sheridan Memorial Hospital will have a blood drive Thursday, August 7. There is a critical need for O negative and O positive blood types. From 11 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. in Conference Room B, Sheridan Memorial Hospital, 1401 W. Fifth St. Appointments are strongly recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. Thursday is National Farmer’s Market week at Sheridan Farmer’s Market @ Grinnell Street Plaza

SHERIDAN— The next Sheridan Farmers Market will be held Thursday on Grinnell Plaza. From 5-7 p.m. vendors will sell produce, arts and crafts and more as live music, children’s activities, demonstrations and nonprofit booths are hosted. This week’s activities include a watermelon eating contest, homemade pie contest, rooster crowing contest, a market basket raffle and a beer and wine garden. Attendance is free for customers and vendor booths are available to rent. Flavor of the Week will benefit The Food Group @ Journey's Center of Wellbeing

SHERIDAN — In celebration of their fourth anniversary, the Kula Space will host “Flavor of the Week,” a weekly free class on Thursdays this summer at 5:30 p.m. Some of the free classes will request optional donations to support a local cause and suggestions of local causes to support are welcome. This week’s class will be Barre Body with Michele. Sign-up is required and it is limited to 12. Donations will benefit The Food Group. Nothing but nets @ Kendrick Park

SHERIDAN— Help the Sheridan Jaycees raise funds to prevent malaria in Africa. On Thursday, August 7, there will be family fun at Kendrick Park starting at 6 p.m. There will be live entertainment from the Boot Hill band, dance lessons, silent auction, food vendors, and adult beverages. This is a fundraiser for Nothing but Nets, an international organization that supplies bed nets to African families. The event is free, but donations are appreciated. NSI Fall Festival @ NSI Academy

SHERIDAN— The NSI Academy presents their fall fest Friday August 8 and Saturday August 9. On Friday there will be a Pig Spit BBQ and live music by The Craft Brothers starting at 6 p.m. On Saturday at 9 a.m., there will be a 5k Color Run that you can register online for. There will also be a lunch and a duck race. Both days will feature musical performances by the student body and inflatables for the whole family. This event is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome to establish a performing arts program at NSI Academy. The NSI Academy is located at 5 Lane Ln. Taste of Sheridan @ Thorne-Rider Park

SHERIDAN— The North Main Association presents a Taste of Sheridan, Sunday, August 10. Come try foods from ten different vendors at Thorne-Rider park from 3-7 p.m. Ten tickets may be purchased at the entrance for $20 and there is a beer and wine garden, kids’ games, and live music performed by Canary Joe, Instagators, and Side Track. ASIST classes return to Sheridan @ Wyoming Mental Health

SHERIDAN— Registration is now open for Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) class to be held on Thursday and Friday, August 21 and 22, from 8:15 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Northern Wyoming Mental Health offices, 1701 W. Fifth St.

The two-day ASIST class is designed to supplement a caregiver’s abilities to assist an at risk person. This class is free, however, space is limited so please contact Sydney Rowe at 620-9995 or email srowe@pmowyo.org.

Big Sky Dowser’s Convention @ Moose Lodge

BILLINGS— The Big Sky Dowser will meet at its 37th annual convention from Aug. 23-24 at the Moose Lodge in Billings, Mont.

Dowsing is a type of divination employed in attempts to locate ground water, buried metals or ores, gemstones, oil and many other objects and materials without the use of scientific apparatus.

Come to the convention and learn about dowsing and see it demonstrated and learn the technique. The special presenter will be Big Sky Dowser Charter Member Vern Bandy who will demonstrate dowsing rods he personally designed.
