“Building Communities Where Children & Families Thrive: The Science of Early Childhood”

SHERIDAN—The Center for a Vital Community, along with a statewide coalition, announced they will host the 2nd annual symposium entitled “Building Communities Where Children & Families Thrive: The Science of Early Childhood”. Events will take place the evening of Sept. 18 and on Sept. 19 and 20 at Sheridan College. Participants at this statewide symposium will learn the latest early childhood research and will focus in particular on the development of children birth to three. Attendees will explore ways to apply new research within communities’ early childhood systems and empower them to imagine innovations that can improve outcomes for children and families in Wyoming. The symposium is open to all early childhood stakeholders including parents and families, early childhood caregivers and educators, K-12 school professionals, physical and mental health providers, and any members of your community interested in helping to make a difference for children and families in the earliest years. Cost of the symposium is $80 and includes meals and materials. To register, visit www.childrenandcommunity.net. Registration is now open. Two Landon’s Greenhouse workshops Saturday @ Landon's Greenhouse

SHERIDAN—Landon’s Greenhouse invites the public to two workshops on Saturday.

The first one at 10 a.m. focuses on Fall bulbs, the what, where, when, and how. Learn the techniques to have a beautiful Spring show. Then at 11 a.m. the workshop will focus on layered bulb pots.

Jessica Bohnsack will teach you how to “force” Fall bulbs to get early growth and blooms the following Spring. Plant your own container of various bulbs, leave it at Landon’s over the winter, and then pick up a finished product in February.

COPE classes beginning Tuesday @ Holiday Inn

SHERIDAN—Judy Olson, director of COPE, “Counseling in Overcoming Painful Emotions”, will be starting a nine week program sponsored by Kane Funeral Home. COPE is an aftercare program designed to help deal with overcoming the loss of a loved one and gain support from others in the community experiencing the same type of grief. Cemetery tours

SHERIDAN— The Sheridan County Museum is hosting tours of the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. These tours will explore the community’s past by venturing to the final resting places of some of its most famous or infamous citizens. The Cemetery Tours will be held on Sunday, at 4 p.m. and then again on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. Tour admission is $5 per person and due to content, and the tours are limited to ages 13 and above. Healthy Back Class @ Sheridan YMCA

Big Horn High School choir concert @ Big Horn High School auditorium

BIG HORN — The Big Horn High School choir will present a fall concert on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the BHHS auditorium.

Choir selections will include “A Tribute To the Armed Forces,” arranged by Lloyd Larson, “Ashokan Farewell,” arranged by Carole Stephens, “It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Sing, Sing, Sing,” arranged by Tom Anderson, “Home,” arranged by Greg Gilpin, and “One Day More,” arranged by Mark Brymer.

As an added feature, a sneak peak of the BHHS Drama Club production will be included in the concert. The cast will present one scene of the play “Just A Little Crazy” by Renee Rebman. The full production of the play is set for 7 p.m. on Nov. 13-14 in the BHHS auditorium.

The event, “Plan Your Retirement on Your Own Terms,” will include cocktails and conversation about retirement preparation and strategies to maximize Social Security benefits.

The program will begin at 4:30 p.m. with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. The retirement presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m.

SHERIDAN — Sheridan Memorial Hospital employees and volunteers will feature homemade items at the annual Christmas craft bazaar Thursday.

The event will run from 4:30-7 p.m. in the conference rooms on the lower level of the hospital.

The public is invited to shop, and drawings will be held at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. You must be present to win.

‘Uncapped’ painting class @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host two “Uncapped” events in November and December.

On Thursday and Dec. 4, individuals of all ages are invited to create their very own painting following instructor Shanna Gardiner. Thursday’s session will focus on fall aspens, while the December session will focus on an old barn.

The sessions will be held from 6-8 p.m. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

The cost to participate is $35 per person and includes all supplies.

At 7 p.m. daily the students will perform the tale of a girl and her parents who are in a big tizzy because they just moved into a turn of the century house, they are trying to remodel and the husband’s wacky sister comes to live with them. Misunderstandings, mixed feelings and hilarity ensue.

The play stars Kendall Meich, Trinity St. John, Joely Mueller, Karsyn Ulivarri, Colter Stanley and Makayla Morris and is directed by Monty and Carol Webb.

Tickets for adults are $2, students are $1 and BHHS students and children under 10 are free.

The performance will be held at the Big Horn Schools’ auditorium, located in the high school at 333 Highway 335, Big Horn.

Prisoner of Second Avenue @ Carriage House Theater

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Civic Theatre Guild will perform “The Prisoner of Second Avenue,” at the Carriage House Theater this weekend.

Dimitra Dugal will direct the dramatic play by Neil Simon in which a well-paid executive of a high-end Manhattan firm gets the ax. While things fall apart around the executive, he does the only thing he can — he has a nervous breakdown and it’s the best thing that ever happened to him.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students, seniors and active military. Tickets are available at the WYO Theater box office or by calling 672-9084. Tickets may also be purchased one hour before each of the performances.

Performances are set for Friday through Sunday and Nov. 21-23. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.
