Sheridan College will host their 12th annual “Border Wars” on Tuesday and registrations to compete are due tomorrow. More than 100 high school students from Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota are expected to compete in one of two categories: agricultural sales or environmental and natural resources. Prizes will be awarded to the top team from each state in each contest. Scholarships and prizes will also be awarded to the top individuals in each contest. The events are similar to what the students will compete in during their respective state Future Farmers of America competitions later this spring so the local competition is a way for students to prepare. In the Ag Sales event, students will have to sell an agricultural product which they have brought with them to an official judge. Students will be judged on advertising campaigns, sales presentation, customer service and how well they solve team problems. SC instructor Chuck Holloway will direct this event and SC faculty and agriculture students will judge the competition. The Environmental and Natural resources competition will test students on their ability to identify wildlife, plants and use field sampling equipment while solving natural resource and environmental concerns in written and oral presentations as individuals or teams. SC instructor Keith Klement will head up this competition. The community is invited to attend the event from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Whitney Presentation Hall and the Agriculture and Natural Science Center at Sheridan College. Judy Olson, director of Counseling in Overcoming Painful Emotions, will start a nine-week program sponsored by Kane Funeral Home. COPE is an aftercare program designed to help deal with overcoming the loss of a loved one and gain support from others in the community experiencing the same type of grief. Free classes will be offered weekly on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. All members of the community are welcome to attend any or all sessions but reservations are requested. March 5 is the deadline to apply to be a Senate Page for one of the two summer session in Washington, D.C. Page duties consist primarily of delivering correspondence and legislative material at the Capitol for U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo. Other duties include preparing Senate hamber for sessions and carrying bills and amendments to the appropriate people on the Senate floor. Applicants must have completed their sophomore year of high school, be ages 16 or 17 on or before the date of appointment and have a grade point average of at least 3.0. Pages live in Webster Hall and receive a stipend to cover the cost of residence as well as breakfast and dinner daily. The summer sessions run from June 9 through June 27 and July 7 through August 1. Jentel Artist Residency Program will host their March “Jentel Presents” on Tuesday. “Jentel Presents” is a free community outreach event open to everyone which features visual presentations and readings by artist in residency. The event will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Sagebrush Community Art Center and refreshments will be served. This month’s presenters include playwright Barbara Lindsay, mixed media artist Laini Nemett, metal smith Lori Swartz and printmaker Junko Yamamoto. The Tongue River High School theater department will present “A Dinner Theater Event: Tangled” tonight.
“Tangled,” the Disney story staring Rapunzel, will be adapted and performed by TRHS students in the school auditorium.
The play will be presented for free to the entire community at 7 p.m.
Prior to the performance a fundraiser spaghetti dinner will be served.
Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and cots $15 per plate or $40 per family.
Tickets can be bought from the TRHS front office and dinner reservations can be made by calling 655-2236.

The Best of the West BBQ Fest committee will host a Fat Tuesday celebration to kick-off their fundraising season. On Tuesday at 6 p.m. complimentary appetizers and music by the Teka Brock Band will be provided at the Black Tooth Brewery. “Sundae cups” of coleslaw, baked beans and BBQ pork will be sold with all proceeds supporting the Best of the West BBQ Fest competition. Commencing at 6 p.m. Diana Johnson, volunteer coordinator for the Historic Sheridan Inn will present “What’s happening at the Inn?”
The meeting will be held at Designing Dinners and food may be ordered off the menu but is not required to attend.
All members of the community are welcome to attend. Members of the organization are invited to take part in the secret sister program and secret sister assignments will be made at this meeting.
