Big Horn Historical Society potluck and program @ Big Horn Woman’s Club clubhouse

The Big Horn Historical Society will host a potluck and program Sunday. The free meeting is open to all members of the community. The potluck will begin at 1 p.m. at the Big Horn Woman’s Club clubhouse. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share. At 1:50 p.m. Helen Laumann will present a program on the CCC Camp and guests can arrive at this time if they choose not to participate in the potluck. The clubhouse is located at 314 S. Second St., Big Horn.

SCLT open house @ Historic Sheridan Inn

The Sheridan Community Land Trust will host their 2014 annual open house on Feb. 27.

From 5-8 p.m. at the Historic Sheridan Inn, Polish appetizers and music will be offered in honor of the completion of the Black Diamond Historic Byway.

Mike Kuzara, a one-man polka band, will perform and attendees will have the opportunity to listen to the Byway audio tour.

The 2013 annual report and 2014 upcoming projects will also be presented.

Raffles winners will also be drawn.

Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery workshops @ Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery

SHERIDAN — Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery will host two free public workshops on Saturday.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Wayne Gray will present “Stop and smell the roses” an informative and fast-paced session that will cover the different types of roses, rose planting and care and rose pests and diseases and how to control them.

The second workshop will be presented by Landon’s manager Keith Kershaw at 1 p.m. Kershaw will present “Backyard orchard: All about fruit trees,” an informative workshop discussing how to grow fruit trees in Wyoming.

All workshops are free but space is limited so pre-registration is requested.

Wyoming Archaeological Society meeting @ Le Gourmet Room of Holiday Inn

The Sheridan-Johnson County chapter of the Wyoming Archaeological Society will meet Thursday in the Le Gourmet Room of Holiday Inn. All members of the community are invited to this free event. At 6:00 p.m. attendees may order dinner off the menu, but no purchase is required to attend. Following dinner at approximately 7:15 p.m. Forest Service archaeologist Bill Matthews will present an update on his fieldwork in the Big Horn Mountains over the past three years. Attendees not desiring dinner may arrive at this time. Matthews and a group of volunteers recorded over 30 prehistoric sites as well as a turn of the century mining district, specifically in the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Parent Partnership meeting @ Sheridan High School library

The Parent Partnership will meet next Monday at Sheridan High School. On March 10 at 6 p.m. topics will include teacher appreciation in May, expanding the adoption of technology, the Graduation Task Force Executive Summary and an overview of “where we’ve been, where we are and where we are going,” at SHS. Writing attention-grabbing resumes class for 50 and older @ Sheridan College Main Street

Sheridan College’s Center for Workforce and Community Education and the American Association of Community Colleges are presenting a series of classes for people age 50 and over.
Classes will be held the second Tuesday of each month starting in September and ending in June.
The class schedule is:
• March 11 — writing attention-grabbing resumes
• April 8 — successful interviews
• May 13 — critical thinking
• June 10 — providing “wow” customer service
All classes are free and will be held from 8-11 a.m. at Sheridan College Main Street, 171 N. Main St. Pre-registration is required.

Trail End Guilds meeting @ Trail End State Historic Site

The Trail End Guilds will meet Tuesday.

The meeting will commence at 7 p.m. at the Trail End State Historic Site.

TEG sponsors at least one major event each year, the Holiday Open House during the first weekend of December.

Membership dues start at $5 a year and meetings are typically held monthly on the second Tuesday.

Guests are welcome and encouraged to attend the meeting.

The Trail End State Historic Site is located at 400 Clarendon Ave.

Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery is hosting three free workshops on Saturday. At 10 a.m. “Easy Composting” will be presented by Phil Gilmore offering tips on composting, including samples available for viewing and storage method discussions. At 11 a.m. members of the city recycling program will talk about the many options for recycling in Sheridan County. At 1 p.m. Bob Krumm will present “Wild and Edible Small Fruits and Berries” an informative workshop. Space is limited so pre-registration is recommended. Roller Derby meet and greet @ Big Horn Mountain Eagles #4169

Sheridan’s first local roller derby league, the Bomber Mountain Derby Devils, is hosting a recruitment meet and greet event on Wednesday for the newly formed women’s team. Commencing at 6 p.m. at the Big Horn Mountain Eagles #4169 refreshments will be served and attendees will learn more about roller derby including participation requirements. The league, which is seeking non-profit status, hopes to offer men’s and youth teams in the future, offering new activities and family entertainment options as other area teams and their fans visit Sheridan for competitions. Sheridan Chapter AARP meeting @ Sheridan Senior Center

The Sheridan Chapter of the AARP will hold a meeting Friday. Commencing at 5:30 p.m. the community is invited to a potluck and bingo night at the Sheridan Senior Center. The event is free and open to everyone. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish to share and their own place settings. The senior center is located at 211 Smith St.
