Sheridan County Historical Society program @ Downtown Sheridan Association Community Room

The Sheridan County Historical Society will host Veronica Hagemann on Wednesday. Hagemann will discuss the archival project at the Wyoming Girls School. The program is free and open to the general public. The event will commence at 7 p.m. and coffee and cookies will be served. The meeting will be held at the Downtown Sheridan Association Community Room located at the corner of North Main Street and Coffeen Avenue.

Stars of Tomorrow @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The Kiwanis will host “Stars of Tomorrow” Feb. 21.

This youth talent show will present children in three categories: elementary, junior high and high school.

First-, second- and third-place winners in each category will receive a trophy and a certificate.

There will also be an overall winner who will receive a scholarship toward the college of their choice and is given the opportunity to compete at the district level.

The show will commence at 7 p.m. at the WYO Theater located at 42 N. Main St.

Tickets for the performance are $8 for adults, $5 for students under age 18 and free for children five years old and younger.

Behind the Scenes Saturday @ Sheridan County Museum

The Sheridan County Museum will present “Behind the Scenes Saturday” on Saturday. This free event is open to all with no reservations required. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a behind-the-scenes view at the museum’s operations. The public is invited to come and see what goes on at the museum when the galleries are closed. Attendees will see how employees take down old exhibits, care for the items entrusted to the museum and prepare new items and galleries for new exhibits. There will also be Tidbit activities for children and parents. The museum is located at 850 Sibley Circle, off of the Fifth Street exit of Interstate 90. For more information call 675-1150.

Uncapped @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host a special class “Uncapped” on Feb. 22.

This painting workshop is tailored to adults and children and will be taught by Tongue River High School art student Hannah Johnston.

Johnston will guide the class in a 20X16 painting with local artist Sonja Caywood serving as her assistant. The class will run from 2-4 p.m. at the art center.

The cost to attend is $35 per adult and $25 per child with an adult, with all supplies included.

Johnston is raising money to go to Europe and all proceeds will go toward that cause.

Attendees are invited to bring non-alcoholic beverages.

The art center is located at 201 E. Fifth St.

The Sagebrush Community Art Center will host another “Uncorked” workshop on Tuesday. “Sunshine Poppies” will offer music, fun and step-by-step guidance from local artist Sonja Caywood on painting your own 20X16 acrylic sunshine poppy painting. The event is open to all and all supplies are included in the price of admission. Space is limited and pre-registration is requested. Registration costs $5 per adult and $25 for children and can be made by calling the art center at 674-1970. The art center is located inside the Historic Train Depot at 201 E. Fifth St.

Pub Painting

The Wyoming Water Color Association will present “Pub Painting” an Artists in Motion fundraiser. On Friday at 5 p.m. the artists of the association will paint and sell their works inside the corner pub at Fifth Street and Main Street. There is no cost to attend but attendees must be age 21 or older to enter the pub. The WWCA offers classes to educate people on the art and Artists in Motion is a grassroots movement to bring art to the masses. Attendees’ participation is welcome. Science Saturday H2O Olympics @ Edward A. Whitney Academic Center atrium of Sheridan College

The Sheridan College Museum of Discovery and Science Kids will host March’s Science Saturday this weekend.

Science Saturday offers free admission to the museum for the entire community. This month the focus is “H2O Olympics” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Edward A. Whitney Academic Center atrium of Sheridan College.

Water may seem ordinary but it is a building block of life and the program will discuss why.

Sheridan College is located at 3059 Coffeen Ave.

What’s happening at the Inn @ Designing Dinners

Akcita Win will host a program on Tuesday.

Commencing at 6 p.m. Diana Johnson, volunteer coordinator for the Historic Sheridan Inn will present “What’s happening at the Inn?”

The meeting will be held at Designing Dinners and food may be ordered off the menu but is not required to attend.

All members of the community are welcome to attend. Members of the organization are invited to take part in the secret sister program and secret sister assignments will be made at this meeting.

The Sheridan College art department will host visiting artist Steve Johnson Wednesday through Friday. Johnson is an assist professor of drawing at College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. On Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in room 153 of the Whitney Building he will provide a presentation of his work and his creative process. This event is free and open to the public. On Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. he will spend the day working on unfinished drawings in the art wing hallway. Interested students and members of the public are encouraged to observe the evolution of his work throughout the day. On Friday from 12:30-4:30 p.m. he will conduct an experimental drawing workshop. More examples of his work will be exhibited in the fine arts wing gallery starting tomorrow and remaining through March 15.
