Charlie Craven fly tying demo @ Best Western

The local chapter of Trout Unlimited will host guest author, fly designer and fly tyer Charlie Craven on Thursday. At 6 p.m. at the Best Western, Cravens, a world renowned tyer from Boulder, Colo., will offer a demonstration of his fly tying techniques. The event is free and open to all but donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of the guest fisherman. For more information call the Fly Shop of the Bighorns at 672-5866. My disability…an incredible journey @ Presentation Hall W136, Whitney Building, Sheridan College

Sheridan College will host guest presenter Ben Anderson on Monday. Anderson, the author of “Breaking through,” “IQ of 63, so what!” and “Last one picked, so what!,” will present “My disability…an incredible journey.” The discussion will include dialogue relating to disabilities such as discrimination, getting an education and misdiagnosis. The discussion will be held in the Presentation Hall of the Whitney Building from 6-7:30 p.m. Sheridan College is located at 3059 Coffeen Ave. and the hall is room W136. Cleanup and Remediation of Creosote Impacted Soils from a Railroad Tie Chipping Facility @ Sheridan College Mohns Center

As part of the Sheridan College Science Museum Lecture Series, John Trumble will present “Cleanup and Remediation of Creosote Impacted Soils from a Railroad Tie Chipping Facility” on Wednesday. Trumble, the president of Cordilleran Environmental Consultants, Inc., will discuss the findings of a BNSF Railway Company sponsored research study conducted near Bovey, Minn. to investigate the use of phytoremediation to clean up an industrially-impacted soil containing polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons. First Light Children’s Center will host a community open house on Thursday.

Celebrating their second anniversary, the public is invited to help them “March into Year 3” from 5:30-7 p.m.

Birthday cake will be served as well as samples of the healthy lunches the children at the center receive from Volunteers of America’s Catering for a Cause.

Activities will also include tours of the facility, a staff meet-and-greet and the opportunity to learn more about the Highscope Curriculum taught at the school.

Seventh biennial Big Horn Elementary All-Student Art Show reception @ The Brinton Museum

The Seventh biennial Big Horn Elementary All-Student Art Show at The Brinton Museum will open Thursday.

A reception will be held by the BHE Home and School Association on Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

All members of the community are invited to this free event.

The show will run through March 30 with no admission charged.

The Blue Dog Blues concert @ Powder River Community Center in Arvada

The Arvada Elementary students will host a concert tomorrow at the Powder River Community Center in Arvada. Commencing at 7 p.m. the students will present “The Blue Dog Blues.” the concert aligns with a “Blue Dog” project they have been working on in art class. Sheridan Chapter AARP meeting @ Sheridan Senior Center

The Sheridan Chapter of the AARP will hold a meeting Friday. Commencing at 5:30 p.m. the community is invited to a potluck and bingo night at the Sheridan Senior Center. “Behind the Scenes Saturday” and “Tidbit Saturday” @ Sheridan County Museum

The Sheridan County Museum will present “Behind the Scenes Saturday” and “Tidbit Saturday” this weekend.

This free event is open to all with no reservations required.

The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for a behind-the-scenes view at the museum’s operations.

The public is invited to come and see what goes on at the museum when the galleries are closed.

Attendees will see how employees take down old exhibits, care for the items entrusted to the museum and prepare new items and galleries for new exhibits.

There will also be Tidbit activities for children and parents.

Tidbit, the SCM Mouse, can be found in each exhibit at the museum and likes to share fun tales and treasures of Sheridan County’s history and children ages 5 to 10 are invited to attend with their parent or guardian for a variety of activities.

The museum is located at 850 Sibley Circle, off of the Fifth Street exit of Interstate 90.
