Calmus to perform at SC @ Sheridan Collegeq

SHERIDAN — The Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College will present the Calmus Vocal Ensemble on April 26 at 7:30 p.m.

This renowned a cappella quintet presents “All the World’s a Stage,” a program of music inspired by the plays and poetry of the immortal bard, William Shakespeare. You will hear songs — all in English — by composers from all over the world ranging across five centuries to commemorate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death that should please literary and music enthusiasts alike.

Excerpts from “Twelfth Night,” “Cymbeline,” “Othello” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be interspersed with settings of the sonnets. The concert will conclude with four distinct versions of the poem “Full Fathom Five” from “The Tempest.”

Composers covered will include 16th century Englishmen Orlando Gibbons and Henry Purcell to contemporary artists like Ralph Vaughan Williams, John Tavener, Nancy Wertsch, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi and others.

The Calmus Ensemble’s five performers are from the renowned St. Thomas Church Choir School and combine a pure female soprano voice with four male voices ranging from bass to countertenor.

Six Appeal to perform at the WYO Theater @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — Six Appeal — a vocal ensemble — will perform at the WYO Theater on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The ensemble will take the audience on a journey that spans decades of music — all performed a cappella.

Prism ‘17 to perform at college @ Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — The Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College will present Prism ‘17 featuring MEAT on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Joining MEAT will be the Sheridan College Flute Choir, members of the Sheridan College viola da gamba consort and Faculty MEAT.

In the 1980s, the Eastman School of Music initiated what it called a Prism Concert, a nonstop program that showcased many facets of its world-famous music program. Sheridan College continues this musical tradition.

The Sheridan College Music Ensemble of Audio Technology (MEAT) was founded in 2011 to provide an opportunity for ensemble playing to our music tech students who don’t play a band or orchestra instrument. Inspired by the Boulder Laptop Orchestra at Colorado University and the Stanford Laptop Orchestra, the group makes use of handheld devices, laptops, synthesizersand other electronic instruments to create music.

The concert is free and open to the public. Information on this concert and all other Whitney Center for the Arts events can be found at whitneyarts.org.

WYO Theater to host ‘A Tribute to Segovia’ @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will host “A Tribute to Segovia” by Andy Hackbarth on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Guitar virtuoso Andy Hackbarth will pay tribute to the “Father of the Classical Guitar,” Andres Segovia, through an eclectic musical journey.

Tickets for the show cost $19 for adults, $16.50 for seniors and military members and $13 for students.

The event will take place in the Mars Theater and tickets are general admission.

Lions Club organizes concert @ Best Western Sheridan Center

The concert will feature the band Yesterdayze, a band that features music from the ‘60s.

The play addresses the universal ups and downs in the lives of young people in middle school and early high school.

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County Children’s and Youth Chorale will perform with the Sagebrush Folk Dancers on Wednesday at the WYO Theater.

The show, entitled “Turn the World Around,” will feature songs celebrating the sights and sounds from around the world. The dancers will offer traditional dances from around the world.

Tickets for the event are $5 for adults, seniors and students. Children age 12 and under get in for $3 apiece.

SHS to perform Big Band Bash @ The Kalif Shrine

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School Spectrum and Jazz bands will perform in a Big Band Bash fundraiser on Wednesday at the Kalif Shrine auditorium.

The bands are under the direction of Ashley Lecholat and Diane Knutson and will be accompanied by Lisa Robertson.

The show will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The performance is a fundraiser for the bands and the cost to attend is $10 per person.

‘Allegiance’ to show at the WYO @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will host a showing of “Allegiance” on May 24 at 6:30 p.m.

The film is a version of a Broadway musical about a family living through the Japanese internment in the U.S. during World War II.

Tickets are $11.75 apiece and are available at the WYO Theater box office or website, wyotheater.com. A daytime showing is also planned for junior high and high school students.

Wyoming Baroque concert @ Sheridan College Whitney Center for the Arts

SHERIDAN — The Whitney Center for the Arts will celebrate art and music Friday with a concert by Wyoming Baroque.
Wyoming Baroque brings together nationally-known artists specializing in historically informed performances of 17th and 18th century repertoire as well contemporary compositions featuring instruments built to the same specifications. While the performers are based throughout the country, the ensemble is in residence at Sheridan College.
The concert will feature a brand new work, “The Temple,” by Sheridan’s own Mark Elliot Bergman. The Temple is based upon a H.P. Lovecraft’s short story first published in Pulp magazine in 1925. The story tells of a German U-boat officer named Altberg-Ehrenstein during World War I. After sinking a British freighter, the German U-boat crew finds an ancient, carved, ivory pendant on the body of a dead British sailor. One of the officers decides to keep the carving and soon after, members of the crew begin to go mad.
Concert tickets cost $20 for adults and $15 for students; they are available through the WYO Theater box office. More information can be found at WhitneyArts.org.

Cowboys in Concert @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — Andy Nelson and Brenn Hill — Cowboys in Concert — will perform at the WYO Theater at 7 p.m. Friday.

Hill is a singer/songwriter, while Nelson is an energetic and high-spirited cowboy poet. Together they bring the Western way of life to the stage.

“The Fantasticks” — CANCELED @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The world’s longest-running musical, billed as “the perfect musical” by The Wall Street Journal, will be staged Tuesday in Sheridan.

Presented by the University of Wyoming Department of Theatre and Dance, “The Fantasticks,” a family-friendly, funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, two meddling parents and a wall, will be performed at the WYO Theater at 7 p.m.

The UW production is free and open to the public.

Directed by UW Assistant Professor Kevin Inouye, “The Fantasticks” production is on a tour to four different Wyoming communities from June 18-21, and is sponsored by the UW Department of Theatre and Dance, in conjunction with UW Fine Arts Outreach.

The play is part of UW’s 64th annual Snowy Range Summer Theatre season; the production is being staged June 15-17 and June 23-24 at UW’s Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts.

“The Fantasticks” has enchanted audiences all over the world since Dwight Eisenhower’s presidency.

The concert will feature a brand new work, “The Temple,” by Sheridan’s own Mark Elliot Bergman. The Temple is based upon a H.P. Lovecraft’s short story first published in Pulp magazine in 1925. The story tells of a German U-boat officer named Altberg-Ehrenstein during World War I. After sinking a British freighter, the German U-boat crew finds an ancient, carved, ivory pendant on the body of a dead British sailor. One of the officers decides to keep the carving and soon after, members of the crew begin to go mad.

SHERIDAN — Andy Nelson and Brenn Hill — Cowboys in Concert — will perform at the WYO Theater at 7 p.m. Friday.

Hill is a singer/songwriter, while Nelson is an energetic and high-spirited cowboy poet. Together they bring the Western way of life to the stage.

The inaugural event will begin with a parade through Ranchester at 10 a.m.

SHERIDAN — The world’s longest-running musical, billed as “the perfect musical” by The Wall Street Journal, will be staged Tuesday in Sheridan.

Presented by the University of Wyoming Department of Theatre and Dance, “The Fantasticks,” a family-friendly, funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, two meddling parents and a wall, will be performed at the WYO Theater at 7 p.m.

The UW production is free and open to the public.

Directed by UW Assistant Professor Kevin Inouye, “The Fantasticks” production is on a tour to four different Wyoming communities from June 18-21, and is sponsored by the UW Department of Theatre and Dance, in conjunction with UW Fine Arts Outreach.

The play is part of UW’s 64th annual Snowy Range Summer Theatre season; the production is being staged June 15-17 and June 23-24 at UW’s Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts.

“The Fantasticks” has enchanted audiences all over the world since Dwight Eisenhower’s presidency.
