Miniature Art Auction

SHERIDAN — The Wyoming Wilderness Association invites members of the public to its 12th annual Miniature Art Auction: Celebrating our Wild Earth.

Miniature artworks donated by talented local artists will be open for viewing and bidding April 23 through May 31 in the nonprofit’s office at 44 S. Main St.

A day for final bids, refreshments and a chance to meet WWA’s new executive director will be May 31 from 5-7 p.m.

Proceeds from the auction support Wyoming Wilderness Association’s priority campaigns in the Red Desert, Bridger-Teton, Shoshone and Bighorn National Forests, as well as the nonprofit’s work actively opposing the public lands transfer movement in order to keep public lands in public hands.

Enhance Fitness class

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County YMCA will offer Enhance Fitness to the community.

The program is an evidence- and community-based senior fitness and arthritis management program. It helps older adults become more active, energized and empowered for independent living. The program focuses on cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility.

The program is free for 16 consecutive weeks, and classes meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:10-10:10 a.m. Registration is ongoing. Contact Desiree Pearce at the YMCA at (307) 674-7488 for more information.

Monarch picnic group @ The Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library

SHERIDAN — There will be a Monarch/Underground Miner’s Picnic planning meeting Wednesday at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting will take place upstairs in the Fulmer Room. All interested parties are invited to attend.

The picnic will be held July 29 in the Bighorn Mountains at Pine Island Campground at 11 a.m.

Tech Summit @ Sheridan Memorial Hospital community room

SHERIDAN — Forward Sheridan has organized a Tech Summit for April 26. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sheridan Memorial Hospital community room at 61 S. Gould St.

Jim Spracklen will be the keynote speaker. The principal advisor for the National Security Directorate within the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory will speak about electrical grid stability.

Other speakers will discuss bitcoin and blockchain, legislation, cybersecurity, emerging technology and more.

Livestrong

SHERIDAN — Livestrong at the YMCA will begin a new session next week.

Livestrong is a national program committed to reaching out to cancer survivors who deserve the opportunity to reclaim or gain their health following their cancer diagnosis and beyond. The 12-week program is free, takes place in a clean and supportive environment and is facilitated by specially trained instructors. The goal of this program is to provide the cancer survivors with a unique healing experience in a supportive environment. It is open to all cancer survivors whether newly diagnosed or 20 years out.

The program will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 20 through May 10.

Class with Randy Stout @ SAGE Community Arts

SHERIDAN — SAGE Community Arts will offer a sketching and painting class with Randy Stout beginning March 8.

The 10-week class will meet Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at SAGE. The cost is $130 for members and $150 for nonmembers.

Students will explore various mediums including pencil, pen and watercolor. They will also try an assortment of papers and sketchbooks. Class participants will learn simple and effective methods to increase their artistic skills.

Light of Hope breakfast @ The Sheridan Holiday Inn

SHERIDAN — The 10th annual Light of Hope Breakfast will take place Friday from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn.

Celebrate Sheryl Bunting as the 2018 Champion for Children and show your financial support for Compass-Center for Families in Sheridan County.

While this breakfast is a free event, Compass will invite each person in attendance to make a contribution to support the work of Court Appointed Special Advocates and Compass Center for Families in Sheridan County.

SHERIDAN — B.J. Thomas will perform in concert at the WYO Performing Arts and Education Center Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The singer, a five-time Grammy and two-time Dove Award winner, has sold more than 70 million records and is ranked in Billboard’s Top 50 most played artists over the past 50 years.

Combat color run @ Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — The Combat Color Fun Run will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sheridan College.

The event will begin in the Bruce Hoffman Golden Dome parking lot. 

Participants will receive a packet of colored powder and a bottle of water. Children ages 5 and younger can participate for free. Fees for children ages 6-14 are $5 per person. Students in high school and college can participate for $10 per person. All others are $15 per person. Families can join the race for $25.
