Woodturners exhibit @ Sheridan College
Feb 12 – Mar 12 all-day

SHERIDAN — Sheridan College will host an exhibit of the Sheridan Area Woodturners Feb. 12 through March 12.

An opening reception will take place Tuesday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Martinsen Gallery at the college. The public is invited to attend, and artists will be available to answer questions about their work. Coffee, tea and snacks will be provided.

This exhibit is free and open to the public, and some of the artwork will be available for purchase throughout the month.

The exhibit will feature exciting and unique woodturnings from local artists, including pens, bowls, vases, figures and segmented turnings in indigenous and exotic woods. All artwork featured in the exhibit was handcrafted on wood lathes by members of the Sheridan Area Woodturners.

The Sheridan Area Woodturners meet on the second Saturday of each month from 2-4 p.m. Men, women and youth are invited to attend club meetings. Please contact Harold Golden for more information at hgolden922@gmail.com.

Spring training
Feb 20 all-day

SHERIDAN — The Center for a Vital Community will offer a series of nonprofit spring training seminars beginning Jan. 16.

The cost to participate is $350 per person and $225 for each additional person from the same organization. All of the seminars will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with breakfast and lunch provided, unless otherwise noted. Those interested in attending should register at www.sheridancvc.org/home/springtraining. The following is the list of session topics planned:

• Jan. 16 — Owning and sharing your mission (half day)

• Feb. 20 — Financial management/administration/human resources

• March 20 — Strategic planning

• April 17 — Boardsmanship/legalities

• May 15 — Funding diversification and expansion

• June 12 — Communications and marketing (half day)

• June 20 — The Pitch

Third Tuesday training sessions @ Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce office

SHERIDAN — Peak Consulting will offer a series of training sessions on the third Tuesday of each month through June.

The sessions will cover a variety of topics to help local businesses.

Each workshop will take place at the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce office, located at 171 N. Main St. The cost is $79 per session.

The following is the list of sessions to be offered:

• Jan. 16 — Proven methods for effective interviewing

• Feb. 20 — Culture: What is it and how do I create it?

Personal fitness program

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County YMCA will offer free classes to adults in the Sheridan community at the beginning of the year.

The Y Personal Fitness class is offered free of charge to all adults 18 and older in the Sheridan community. The classes are taught by instructors who have been trained to understand the barriers many people encounter when embarking on an exercise program.

The classes will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays for one hour during a 12-week period. Times for the classes will be 9 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. For more information and to sign up, call the YMCA at (307) 674-7488.

SHERIDAN — Livestrong at the YMCA will begin a new session next week.

Livestrong is a national program committed to reaching out to cancer survivors who deserve the opportunity to reclaim or gain their health following their cancer diagnosis and beyond. The 12-week program is free, takes place in a clean and supportive environment and is facilitated by specially trained instructors. The goal of this program is to provide the cancer survivors with a unique healing experience in a supportive environment. It is open to all cancer survivors whether newly diagnosed or 20 years out.

The program will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 20 through May 10.

Ukulele class

SHERIDAN — The Hub on Smith will host a weekly ukulele class beginning Jan. 23.

The class with Lynn Young will take place each Tuesday at 2 p.m. through March 14.

Attendees will learn basic chords, tuning and songs. There is no charge for the class and limited instruments are available for use on a temporary basis courtesy of Q-Man Music.

Enhance Fitness class

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County YMCA will offer Enhance Fitness to the community.

The program is an evidence- and community-based senior fitness and arthritis management program. It helps older adults become more active, energized and empowered for independent living. The program focuses on cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility.

The program is free for 16 consecutive weeks, and classes meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:10-10:10 a.m. Registration is ongoing. Contact Desiree Pearce at the YMCA at (307) 674-7488 for more information.
