Bank of the West organizes charity drive @ Bank of the West,

SHERIDAN — The Bank of the West will gather coats, gloves and hats to benefit the Sheridan Foster Parent Exchange through Dec. 30. 

Items may be dropped off at the Bank of the West, located at 2 N. Main St. 

Items welcome in the drop-offs include gently used winter wear like coats, hats and gloves.

The show will be available for public viewing at the Inner Circle of the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library through January.

Listening session at Sheridan College to host UW President Laurie Nichols @ Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — University of Wyoming President Laurie Nichols and other UW leaders will visit Sheridan on Dec. 8 from 12:15-1:45 p.m. at Sheridan College to solicit statewide input on a strategic plan to guide the university for the next five years.

The event will take place in the University of Wyoming Watt building in rooms 131 and 132. The listening session is free and open to the public.

“These sessions are for us to hear from the people of Wyoming about their land-grant university,” Nichols said. “Creating a strong five-year plan is so important as it sets priorities and indicates areas of focus. I want to be there personally to listen to people’s hopes and dreams for Wyoming’s university, as well as the obstacles to achieving those dreams and ideas on how those challenges can be overcome.”

‘A Bright New Boise’ to continue Thursday @ The Carriage House Theatre

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Civic Theatre Guild will continue its production of “A Bright New Boise” on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The show, directed by Dimitra Dugal, centers around the lost souls employed at a Hobby Lobby as they confront an unyielding world through the beige-tinted impossibility of modern idealism. It’s an earnest comedy about the sometimes meager profits of modern faith.

Performances are set for Dec. 8-10 at 7:30 p.m. each night. A matinée show will take place Dec. 11 at 2 p.m.

Tickets cost $15 for adults or $12 for seniors, students and military members.

The Carriage House Theatre is located at 419 Delphi Ave.

TRHS to host piano concert @ Tongue River High School

DAYTON — Tongue River High School students will show off their piano skills with a concert Thursday at 5 p.m. 

Lizzy Martin and Hannah Johnston will host the Christmas event at the school for Family Career and Community Leaders of America.

The event will feature music and treats.

Tongue River High School is located at 1150 Main St. in Dayton.

VA to host community forum Thursday @ Sheridan VAHCS

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Veterans Affairs Health Care System will host a community forum Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. in the auditorium located at its the campus in Sheridan.

Organizers have invited all veterans and those who care for and advocate for veterans in Sheridan and Johnson counties to the event.

Warren Hill, the interim medical center director, will provide a brief update on the Sheridan VAHCS and take questions from those in attendance.

Representatives from the Veterans Benefits Administration, Suicide Prevention Program, Transitional Care Management Program, Patient Education, Enrollment/Eligibility Office, Patient Advocate, Human Resources and the VA Choice Program will also be available to answer questions from attendees.

SHERIDAN — Enroll Wyoming will conduct two sessions Friday regarding health coverage heading into the new year.

From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a free session will take place for community members seeking to enroll for 2016 health insurance coverage.

From 9:30-10:30 a.m., a free training will take place for social services staff.

Both sessions will be held in the Inner Circle Room at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library, located at 335 W. Alger St.

Senior Center organizes ugly sweater contest @ Cozy Corner Bar at Coffeen Liquors

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Senior Center will host an ugly sweater contest on Dec. 9 from 6-11 p.m. at the Cozy Corner Bar.

The second annual event will support the Sheridan Senior Center and the Keystone Awards. It will include drink specials, prizes and raffles.

A prize for the best ugly sweater and a raffle to win four Denver Nuggets tickets for a game on Jan. 21 will be awarded.

The Cozy Corner Bar at Coffeen Liquors is located at 112 Coffeen Ave.

Craft, sweet holiday bazaars continue Saturday

SHERIDAN — The holiday season means the appearance of a number of craft and cookie bazaars and this weekend is no exception.

Here’s a list of local bazaars planned for Saturday.

• 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Gingerbread cookie and candy sale, treats will be sold for $6 per pound, First United Methodist Church, 215 W. Works St.

• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — ‘Tis the Season Christmas Boutique, 2042 Papago Drive

Miss Merry Christmas Pageant set for Sat. @ Holiday Inn

SHERIDAN — The Miss Merry Christmas Pageant for girls ages birth to 15 years will take place Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at the Sheridan Holiday Inn. 

The entry fee is $35 and entry forms are available through Teri Mahaffy at littlemisswyoming@live.com.

The Little Miss Wyoming Scholarship Pageant sponsors the event. 

The Holiday Inn is located at 1809 Sugarland Drive.

‘Cook up science’ Saturday with Science Kids @ Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — Science Saturday this week will focus on “cooking up science” at the Sheridan College Science Center.

From 10 a.m. to noon, children of all ages are welcome to attend the free program that will discuss the science of nutrition, food and digestion.

Science Kids and the Sheridan College Museum of Discovery sponsor Science Saturday events.

Children are also welcome to explore the paleontology exhibits in the Mohn’s Science Museum.

CHAPS to host ‘Ugly Sweater’ 5K run @ Thorne-Rider Park

SHERIDAN — Children, Horses and Adults in Partnership, or CHAPS, will host an ugly Christmas outfit 5K run on Dec. 10 at noon at Thorne-Rider Park.

Proceeds raised will benefit CHAPS Equine Assisted Therapy in Sheridan. The run will begin at Thorne-Rider park and take place eon the Sheridan running trail system.

The cost to participate is $30 for those who pre-register and $40 if you sign up the day of the race.
