Personal fitness program

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County YMCA will offer free classes to adults in the Sheridan community at the beginning of the year.

The Y Personal Fitness class is offered free of charge to all adults 18 and older in the Sheridan community. The classes are taught by instructors who have been trained to understand the barriers many people encounter when embarking on an exercise program.

The classes will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays for one hour during a 12-week period. Times for the classes will be 9 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. For more information and to sign up, call the YMCA at (307) 674-7488.

Ukulele class

SHERIDAN — The Hub on Smith will host a weekly ukulele class beginning Jan. 23.

The class with Lynn Young will take place each Tuesday at 2 p.m. through March 14.

Attendees will learn basic chords, tuning and songs. There is no charge for the class and limited instruments are available for use on a temporary basis courtesy of Q-Man Music.

Signups for the class are requested by calling (307) 672-2240.

Enhance Fitness class

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County YMCA will offer Enhance Fitness to the community.

The program is an evidence- and community-based senior fitness and arthritis management program. It helps older adults become more active, energized and empowered for independent living. The program focuses on cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility.

The program is free for 16 consecutive weeks, and classes meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:10-10:10 a.m. Registration is ongoing. Contact Desiree Pearce at the YMCA at (307) 674-7488 for more information.

Class for healthy backs @ YMCA

SHERIDAN — Back pain plagues many people, from simple muscle pangs and posture-related soreness to more serious discomfort from injury. The YMCA Healthy Back program was designed by medical professionals to help individuals strengthen their backs.

The Healthy Back class is preventative in nature and consists of relaxation, stretching and gentle muscle strengthening exercises. Program participants will gradually learn a sequence of 15 exercises that can be done daily at home. The Healthy Back class is free to all members of the community, and the class is limited to 15 participants. Interested individuals must sign up by calling the YMCA at (307) 674-7488.

The class will take place from 12:15-1:15 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday from Jan. 15-31.

‘My Father’s Dragon’ @ The WYO

SHERIDAN — The beloved Newbery Honor book “My Father’s Dragon” will come to life at the WYO Performing Arts and Education Center on Jan. 25 at 6 p.m.

The show tells the tale of compassion, courage and friendship. Elmer sets off on an adventure to rescue a baby dragon who is being held captive by ferocious animals.

Tickets for the show cost $14.50 per adult, $11.50 for senior and military and $8.50 for students. Tickets are available through the WYO box office, online at wyotheater.com or by phone at (307) 672-9084.

winter concert, dance series @ The Sheridan Inn

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Inn will host a series of winter concerts and dances each Friday night from now through March.

The first event will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and will feature live music from the Band of Outlaws. There is a $5 per person cover charge at the door.

Each evening will include giveaways for items including a free night’s stay at the inn, gift cards to the Open Range, T-shirts, free drink tickets and tickets to the next show.

The following is the schedule for the series:

• Jan. 26 — Band of Outlaws

• Feb. 2 — Band of Outlaws

The inn will also offer special room packages for the night of each show.
