SHERIDAN — The Sheridan junior varsity football team improved to 3-0 after a 31-27 win over Billings Skyview Falcons Monday night on the road.
Broncs coach Darin Gilbertson said that a late Falcons drive put them up 27-24. Riley Sessions returned a kickoff past the 50-yard line to set up the winning drive with just under one minute remaining. Quarterback Dontae Crow made several key plays; including a clutch first down run on fourth and short to keep the game winning drive alive, Gilbertson said.
Junior wideout Jess Edens caught the game winning 30-yard pass from Crow with seven seconds remaining. Gilbertson said Edens went up between two defenders to make a spectacular catch, fighting his way into the end zone for the final score.
Edens had a 70-yarder for a score from Crow in the third quarter and also kicked a 17-yard field goal and was 4-4 on PATs.
Sophomore Zach Campbell scored on an end-around in the first half and took a quarterback keeper 61 yards in the third quarter.
Defensively, the Broncs made several keys plays, Gilbertson said, with Kyle Bott recovering a first half fumble and Riley Sessions blocking a PAT. Clayton Partridge and Blaze Mickelson each had an interception in the second half to stop Falcon drives.
Sheridan has wins over two Billings schools and Kelly Walsh so far this season.
The Broncs (3-0) are on the road again this Saturday as they travel to Cody.
