SHERIDAN — The Big Horn High School track team got their season underway with a strong showing at the Riverside Invitational Friday.
The boys squad won the team title, scoring 117 points. They were well ahead of Meeteetse (88.5) in second place. On the girls side, the Lady Rams placed second with 125 points, behind Thermopolis’ 139.
Tongue River High School and Arvada-Clearmont athletes competed in the meet as well, with TR girls and boys teams third and fourth, respectively. A-C teams were both eighth.
Big Horn’s Christian Mayer and Richard Stanley placed second and third in the 100-meter run. Arvada-Clearmont’s Shayna Kretschman took second in the girls 100-meter run.
TR’s Josiah Huff won the boys 400-meter race, running the race five seconds faster than the second place runner. Tongue River’s Cody Jolovich was runner-up in the boys 800-meter race. Jolovich ran it in 2 minutes 13.29 seconds, behind Harley Rhodes of Thermopolis and his 2:12.68. Jolovich also took second in the 1,600.
Tongue River’s Julie Tritschler was first in the girls 800-meter race, beating out Colleen Swan of Big Horn. Tongue River’s Adaline Ostler was second in the girls 1,600 race, and Swan was third.
Big Horn’s Hunter Serslend won the boys 3,200 race, and Tongue River’s Elana Ostler placed second in the girls 3,200.
The Lady Rams dominated the girls 100-meter hurdles. Jadyn Mirich, Bailey Bard and McKenzie Greenelsh were first, second and third, respectively. Mirich also won the 300 hurdles, with Tongue River’s Adaline Ostler behind her in second.
Big Horn’s Matthew Wigglesworth won the boys 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles races, while Tongue River’s Austen Scammon was third in the 100 and second in the 300.
Mirich won the girls high jump and teammate Hanneah Puckett was third. Kretschman was second in the girls long jump, and her two placings Friday earned all of the 16 girls team points for A-C.
In throwing, the Rams also showed well at the top of the leaderboard. Preston Davenport and Mason Lube were first and second in boys shot put. Mason Lube was third in boys discuss.
Lady Eagle Sarah Nielsen won girls discuss, placing second in shot put.
Eagles relay teams won the boys 4×400 and girls 4×800 relay races. Big Horn won both 4×100 races, and the girls also won the 4×400.
