SHERIDAN — Michael Rotellini and Nate Berg led the Sheridan High School track team at the Kelly Walsh Invite Saturday in Casper.

Rotellini took first in the 800-meter run, finishing the race in 1:59.77 and qualifying for state in the process.

“He took the lead on the second lap and put distance on the field in a state meet qualifying time,” head coach Art Baures said. “He is now qualified in all four of his events.”

After taking third in the event last weekend at the Dan Hansen in Sheridan, Nate Berg won the 300-meter hurdles Saturday with a 41.21 second run, qualifying for state in the process.

“He has improved consistently and continues to be an outstanding leader on our team,” Baures said of the senior Berg.

Sheridan’s other standout runner this season, Gabby Edeen, also ran a state-qualifying time Saturday, this time in the 200-meter dash. She ran it in 26.08.

“Gabby is running times that are very competitive, and she will be able to compete with the best at the regional and state meets,” Baures said. “It is great to see her confidence grow and her performances improve late in the season.”

Baures noted Mariah Grant as another standout for the Lady Broncs Saturday. The sophomore placed in two events, taking sixth in the 100-meter dash and second in the long jump.

“She is starting to run and compete to the best of her ability, and she will certainly see more improvement if she continues in that fashion,” Baures said.

No team scores were kept Saturday, but the meet saw teams from Billings and Cheyenne, providing a second straight weekend of good competition after weather has limited the SHS track schedule this year.

“Many of the teams in the state were in attendance and provided a very good test for our athletes,” Baures said. “It was very nice to see some new state meet qualifiers and many of the other athletes also stepped up and improved in their respective events.”

Sheridan will be in Gillette Tuesday and Friday.
