SHERIDAN — Arvada-Clearmont basketball star and all-around academic achiever Shayna Kretschman signed her National Letter of Intent on Tuesday at Arvada-Clearmont High School to join the Sheridan College Lady Generals basketball team this fall.
“We have been watching Shayna the last two seasons at Arvada-Clearmont, and really like her skills and athleticism,” Lady Generals head coach Frank McCarthy said. “We feel she can shoot the basketball and also put it on the floor and get to the rim. She is a very good student with a 3.9 GPA.”
Kretschman was named 1A East Player of the year and made All-Conference and All-State this past season. Kretschman averages 14.5 points, 2.6 assists and 4.3 steals per game.
During the past season, Kretschman finished in the top 10 of five different categories. She finished sixth in points, ninth in assists, fourth in steals, fourth in 3-point percentage and 10th in overall field goal percentage.
Kretschman participates in volleyball and track and field at Arvada-Clearmont. She made All-Conference all four years in track and was named Powder River Conference 1A Female Athlete of the Year twice.
“My goals are to continue to play the game while keeping my education up,” Kretschman said. “I have dreamed of playing at the collegiate level since I was 6 and now that it has come true, I am excited to play for my home community college.”
Kretschman joins Jess Underberg (Douglas) and Sarah Rawlings (Tongue River) in the 2014-15 recruiting class.
