Anthem to be played each morning at SC

SHERIDAN — Sheridan College began a new tradition on Monday of playing the national anthem through the speakers on the college grounds daily Monday through Friday at 7:30 a.m. during the academic year.

The practice is an effort to honor the growing population of veterans currently taking classes.

The college also dedicated a new entrance this past Veterans Day that includes a Veteran’s Plaza with 300 brick pavers engraved with the names of current and past veterans of the armed forces.

Anyone interested in purchasing a paver in recognition of a service person can call the Sheridan College Foundation at 674-6446 extension 4301.

Sheridan College was founded in 1948 following the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944, more commonly known as the G.I. Bill, which provided benefits to veterans returning from World War II.

Sheridan College currently has approximately 80 veterans enrolled in classes.
