YMCA Theater Camp attendees to perform “The Artistocats, Jr.” @ WYO Theater

‘Bikers Against Bruises’ poker run set for July 2 @ Advocacy and Resource Center

SHERIDAN — The “Bikers Against Bruises” fundraiser motorcycle run for the Advocacy and Resource Center will take place July 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will raise funds and awareness to help victims of violent crimes in Sheridan County.

The poker run will cost $10 per hand. The event will start at the Advocacy and Resource Center parking lot at 11:30 a.m. and the ride will begin at noon.

Stops will include The A and R Center, The Ranch at Ucross, Cowboy Saloon, Wagon Box, Big Horn Smokehouse and The Cozy Corner at Coffeen Liquors for food, drinks, giveaways and to announce the winner of the poker run.

In case of inclement weather, the schedule will stay the same, but the event will be moved to July 3.

‘The Power of Play’ opening set for July 2 @ The Ucross Foundation

SHERIDAN — The Ucross Foundation will host the opening of the new exhibit “The Power of Play: Cross-Pollination of Art and Science” on July 2 from 1-3:30 p.m.

The event will include music and dance performances.

All are welcome to attend the event at no charge and refreshments will be available.

Attendees will be able to meet and talk with 20 artists, writers, composers, musicians, singers and scientists.

Antelope Butte Brewfest set for July 2 @ Antelope Butte Mountain Recreation Area

SHERIDAN — The Bighorn Mountains Brewfest is set for July 2 from 1-5 p.m.

General admission is $15 per adult, which includes a commemorative sampling glass and three free beer tokens. People age 21 and younger get in for free.

The family friendly event will include music by Chad Lore, food from Pie in the Sky food truck, five different breweries to sample and a mountain bike ride.

Rangers and Spurs to perform Fri., Sat. @ WYO Theater

Parent, child volleyball tournament planned @ Whitney Commons Park

SHERIDAN — An outdoor community volleyball tournament for parents and children will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Whitney Commons Park.

The outdoor tournament is open to everyone age 12 and older. The tournament will feature parent/child teams and the cost to register is $20 per adult or $15 per child. T-shirts will be provided for the first 20 teams to register and prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers.

The tournament will raise money for the Cloud Peak Volleyball Club’s travel fees.

Other community volleyball tournaments are scheduled for June 18, June 25 and July 4.

The outdoor event will feature teams of coed doubles and youth triples from 12-18 years old at $20 per person in the coed doubles and $15 per person in the youth triples. T-shirts will be given to the first 20 teams registered and prizes awarded to the top three finishers.

Ranchester to host July 4 activities @ Connor Battlefield State Park

SHERIDAN — A Fourth of July celebration will take place from 2-10 p.m. at Connor Battlefield in Ranchester.

The event will include live music by Gary Small and the Coyote Brothers, food and drinks, a wife-carrying competition and a bounce castle with fireworks to follow at 9 p.m.

Equestrian Center to host Fourth of July celebration @ Big Horn Equestrian Center

SHERIDAN — The Equestrian Center will host the annual community fireworks celebration in Big Horn on July 4 from 4-11 p.m.

The gates open at 4 p.m. for tailgating, relaxing and live music with fireworks that start at 10 p.m.

There is no admission charge for the event, but a donation of $10 per car is requested for the Big Horn Lions Club scholarship fund.

SMH offering free classes each month @ Sheridan Memorial Hospital

SHERIDAN — Sheridan Memorial Hospital will offer two free classes each month. While the classes are offered at no charge, those planning to attend are asked to register.

The classes are a prenatal class for expectant moms and dads and partners and a breastfeeding and newborn class.

The prenatal class will take place the first Monday of every month from 6-8 p.m. in Sheridan Memorial Hospital Conference Rooms A and B.

The breastfeeding and newborn class is meant for anyone interested in breastfeeding and newborn care and will be held the third Monday of each month from 6-8 p.m. at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. A pediatrician also attends each class to talk a little about newborn care as well as a guest speaker who educates on car seat safety.

Register for either class by calling Sheridan Women’s Clinic at 672-2522 or Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s Women’s Health Services at 672-1110.

Next round of Jentel Presents planned for July 5 @ Sagebrush Community Art Center

SHERIDAN — The Jentel Artist Residency program will feature June’s residents in an event open to the public on Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Sagebrush Community Art Center.

Presenters will include printmaker and artist Martin Azevedo, of Turlock, California; painter Sandra Dal Poggetto, of Helena, Montana; essayist Abby Rabinowitz, of Brooklyn, New York; multidisciplinary artist Micheal Pribich, of New York City; novelist Laura Brodie, of Lexington, Virginia; and photographer James Robert (Rob) Southard, of Lexington, Kentucky.

Brucellosis presentation set for July 25 @ Watt Agricultural building

 SHERIDAN — The University of Wyoming Extension and the Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory will host a meeting on the current status of Brucellosis in Wyoming in the Watt Agricultural Building, room 131, at the Sheridan College campus on July 25 at 6 p.m.

An overview of Brucellosis and the vaccines, quarantine and regulation for the disease will be given.

The event will conclude with an open discussion. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

Hemingway writers retreat set for Aug. 12-14 at the Sheridan Inn @ Sheridan Inn

SHERIDAN — “Hemingway’s Wyoming,” a weekend writing retreat, will take place Aug. 12-14.

Ernest Hemingway had a longtime love affair with Wyoming, visiting ranches and hotels across the state in the 1920s and 1930s, including the Sheridan Inn. This summer, the porch of the Sheridan Inn will serve as a gathering spot for a small group of writers attending the retreat.

Darla Worden will host the weekend workshop. She is the founder and director of the annual Left Bank Writers Retreat in Paris. Worden grew up in Sheridan.

The cost to participate in the weekend retreat is $230 per person, which includes a welcome cocktail Friday evening at the Sheridan Inn, the writing workshop, transportation to Spear-O-Wigwam and back, a picnic lunch, a cocktail hour on Saturday, lunch on Sunday and an optional polo match in Big Horn. Writers are responsible for their own overnight lodging.

The group is limited to eight participants.
