Photo Contest for Sheridan Museum Calendar

SHERIDAN— The Sheridan County Museum is having a photo contest for their 2015 calendar. Photos must be taken within 100 miles of Sheridan, can be black and white, sepia, or color and submitted as 5 x 7 print. Entries are taken until Oct. 18 and are available online or at Photo Imaging Center. Limit three photos per photographer. CLEARMONT— Celebrate My Drive is a safe driving program sponsored by State Farm Insurance that offers grants to schools that make safe driving a commitment. The Clearmont-Arvada high school staff and students are asking everyone 14 and older to go to www.celebratemydrive.com from Oct. 15-24 to vote for the high school. The top school receives a $100,000 grant and a private concert by The Band Perry. The runner-up will win a $25,000 grant. It is free to vote and you can vote often. Vote for Sheridan College in “Celebrate Arbor Day”

SHERIDAN — Back in May, volunteers helped plant 32 tress on the Sheridan College campus for Arbor Day and now the college has been selected as a finalist in the “Celebrate Arbor Day” event contest offered by Tree Campus USA. Tree Campus USA is a national program that recognizes colleges for effective forestry management on campuses and for engaging faculty, staff and students in conservation efforts. Public voting began on Oct. 15 and will conclude Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 10:59 p.m. To vote, visit www.arborday.org/vote. There is one vote allowed per person every day. Five winners will be selected and announced on Friday, Oct. 24. Winners will receive funding and promotional gear to help in hosting their Arbor Day events in 2015.

Local congressional office hours @ Sheridan YMCA

SHERIDAN — Field representatives for Wyoming’s congressional delegation will host office hours Wednesday at the Sheridan County YMCA.
The office hours provide area residents an opportunity to discuss issues, views, questions and concerns with the field representatives. The comments and concerns will be relayed to Sens. Mike Enzi and John Barrasso and Rep. Cynthia Lummis.
The office hours will be held from 11 a.m. to noon.
The Sheridan County YMCA is located at 417 N. Jefferson St.

Partial Solar Eclipse Viewing @ Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — Join the Sheridan College Museum of Discovery for a partial solar eclipse viewing Thursday. There will be a solar telescope and solar viewing glasses at the event which will take place in-between the Science Center and Whitney Building. The eclipse will last from about 3:45 p.m. until 5:15 p.m., with the estimated maximum eclipse occurring around 4:20 p.m. The college is located at 3059 Coffeen Ave.

Story chili cook-off and Fall fest

STORY— Story is having their second annual chili cook-off Thursday as part of their Fall Festival at the Story School. Contestants are needed and entry forms are available at the Story school, Story store and the Story library. For more registration information call Stevie Phillips at 752-6140. The Fall Festival is from 5-7 p.m. and features the chili cook-off, family photos, cake walk and tons of activities and games.

Free Legal Advice Clinic @ Founders Hall/Sheridan College

Sheridan County Historical Society @ Holy Name Parish

SHERIDAN—The Sheridan County Historical Society will hold their annual meeting Thursday at the Holy Name Parish Center at 260 E. Loucks St. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. with a short business meeting followed by a program presented by Warren Mischke. The event is free and open to the public. Mischke will have a presentation focusing on the history of elk in the Bighorn Mountains. Mischke is a retired Wyoming Game and Fish professional with 36 years of experience. His career began at the fish hatchery in Tensleep before moving throughout the state with postings in Star Valley, Rock River, and Sundance. He transferred to Sheridan as an Information Specialist. SHERIDAN — The cast of the WYO Theater’s gala fundraiser will perform encores of ‘42nd Street’ this week.
Shows are scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for students and may be purchased through the WYO Theater box office or by calling 672-9084.

The musical set in 1933 celebrates the stuff that dreams are made of and celebrates the story of hard work, being in the right place at the right time, talent and love. It focuses on aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer and takes us along her journey.

The WYO Theater is located at 42 N. Main St.

Pet-O-Ween

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter has scheduled the 14th annual Pet-O-Ween Contest for Saturday at Kendrick Park.

Registration for the two-part event begins at 10 a.m. A pet-owner walk/run will start at 11 a.m. and cost to participate in the race is $5 per person. The first 50 entries will receive a free pet first-aid kit.

The costume contest will begin at noon and entry fees for that competition are also $5 per pet. Categories for the contest include best pet-owner costume, best dog costume, best cat costume and most unique costume.
A bucket raffle will also be featured.

Proceeds for the event will benefit the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter.

The event will also feature lunch by Killy’s Smokehouse Deli and soda will be provided by Coca Cola of Sheridan.
