Auditions for “Laughter-Always the Best Medicine” @ Carriage House Theater

SHERIDAN — Director Pat Tomsovic will be holding open auditions for “Laughter-Always the Best Medicine,” a selection of seven one-act plays to be performed April 23-26 and April 30-May 3 at the Carriage House Theater.

Auditions will be March 1 at 2 p.m. and March 2 at 7 p.m.

Those who wish to audition will be reading directly from the scripts, so no preparation beforehand is necessary.

The plays to be performed include:

• “Supreme Beings Create the World” by Mo Gaffney and Kathy Najimy

• “Post-its” by Paul Dooley

• “Wanda’s Visit” by Christopher Durang

• “The Flying Wolimskies Return” by David Smilow

• “Rosa’s Eulogy” by Richard Strand

• “Chocolate” by Frederick Stroppel

• “The Blueberry Hill Accord” by Daryl Watson

Tomsovic will be assisted by veteran CTG director Norleen Healy. All interested actors are encouraged to attend.

Wild West Wine Fest @ Elks Lodge

SHERIDAN — The Downtown Sheridan Association will host the 2015 Wild West Wine Fest on March 6.

The event to be held at the Elks Lodge will include tastings of more than 100 wines, beers and spirits with heavy hors d’oeuvres all evening.

General admission tickets cost $50 and include admission to the event from 6-9 p.m.

Tickets will be available online at downtownsheridan.org.

The event raises funds for the Downtown Sheridan Association.

The Food Group Tacofest and Family Fun event @ Edward A. Whitney Academic Center at Sheridan College

SHERIDAN — The Food Group Tacofest and Family Fun event will be held Saturday, March 7, at 5:30 p.m. at Sheridan College.

The fundraiser will benefit children in Sheridan County who would otherwise go hungry over the weekends.

A taco dinner will be provided by Taco John’s and activities for the whole family will be featured.

The free event will be held in the atrium of the Edward A. Whitney Academic Center.

Donations to The Food Group will be accepted at the door.

Nonprofit Tuesday for Senior Center, Keystone Awards @ Black Tooth Brewing Company

SHERIDAN — The next Nonprofit Tuesday at the Black Tooth Brewing Company will support the Sheridan Senior Center and the 2015 Keystone Awards.

On Tuesday, March 10, the brewery will donate $1 from every pint sold.

In addition, the 4-6 p.m. celebration will feature live music from Terry Garrison and the sale of raffle tickets for packages valued at more than $2,000. Winners of the raffle will be announced at the Keystone Awards on April 23.

DAYTON — Tongue River High School students will perform an adaptation of the popular movie “Frozen” on March 10 and 11.

An optional dinner will also be served Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The cost for dinner is $10 per person or $35 per family.

The meal will be served by cast members of the production.

The free show will begin at 7 p.m. each night, though donations will be accepted at the door to support the TRHS music and drama programs.

Salad luncheon @ First United Methodist Church

SHERIDAN — The United Methodist Women will host their annual salad luncheon on Thursday, March 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

An all-you-can-eat salad lunch will be served for $7 per person.

All proceeds of the luncheon will benefit the Methodist Women’s Missions locally and around the world.

The luncheon will be held at First United Methodist Church, located at 215 W. Works St.

Organizers ask that attendees use the entrance on Tschirgi Street or the handicap entrance from the parking lot.

‘Filling an Empty Bowl’ fundraiser for VOA @ Sheridan County YMCA

SHERIDAN — The annual Volunteers of America “Filling an Empty Bowl” fundraiser will be held Thursday, March 12, from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Sheridan County YMCA.

A wide variety of homemade soups will be served by community churches and other organizations.

The event will also include a silent auction, live music by Canary Joe, face painting and games for kids.

Attendees also get to take home their handcrafted bowls.

Organizers said the event is meant to help attendees emulate a meal one might have at a soup kitchen.

Tickets for the event are $25 for families, $10 for adults or $5 for children 6 and older. Kids 5 and younger are free.

Live from The Met: ‘La Donna Del Lago’ @ WYO Theater

SHERIDAN — The WYO Theater will present “Live from The Met: Rossini’s ‘La Donna Del Lago’” on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The performance is one installation of the series “The Metropolitan Opera: Live in High-Definition,” which transmits opera performances to movie theaters and other venues around the world as part of The Metropolitan Opera’s efforts to reinvigorate opera and reach out to a broader public.

The program allows audiences to experience the production at the same time as the audience in New York.

“La Donna Del Lago” is set in the medieval Scottish highlands and based on a beloved novel by Sir Walter Scott. Joyce DiDonato is the “Lady of the Lake” of the title, and Juan Diego Florez is the king who relentlessly pursues her, their vocal fireworks embellishing the romantic plot.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students.

Run ‘Til You’re Green Fun Run @ Kendrick Park

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Jaycees will host a fun run Saturday in Kendrick Park beginning at 11 a.m.

The “Run ‘Til You’re Green” event will include 1-mile, 5K and 10K runs.

The entry fee to participate is $25 if you register before Saturday. The cost will be $30 on race day. The fee includes a T-shirt, goodie bag and lunch from Qdoba.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Sheridan Jaycees for various community development projects.

Prizes will be awarded for best/greenest outfit as well as top times in each race and age group.

4-H carnival and chili supper @ Sheridan County Fairgrounds

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan County 4-H carnival and chili supper is set for March 14 from 3-7 p.m. at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall.

The event will include family fun, classic carnival games and a chili dinner. Games will include cake walks, a dunk tank and rubber band target shooting.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from any 4-H member or at the Sheridan County Extension Office in the Watt Agricultural Center at 3401 Coffeen Ave. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.

Raffle tickets for drawings to be held at the event are $2 per ticket or $18 for a book of 10. Tickets for games will cost 25 cents per ticket.

Dining for a Cause to benefit Sheridan Health Center @ Frackelton's

SHERIDAN — The next Dining for a Cause, scheduled for Monday, March 23, will benefit the Sheridan Health Center. All sales from lunch and dinner will be donated to the nonprofit organization.

Sheridan Health Center (formerly the Free Clinic of Sheridan) opened in March 2005 to provide medical care to uninsured Sheridan County residents whose household income makes it difficult to obtain health care. The project’s goal is to empower patients to achieve a higher quality of life utilizing chronic disease management and long-term health and wellness planning. Building partnerships to enhance service to patients and engage the community has been its strength.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch and 4-10 p.m. for dinner. Reservations for the event are encouraged and may be made by calling 675-6055.
